# The Simple Geometry of the Big Transformation

In this blog you will learn that we are very close to a big Technical but also PhiloSophical, Social and Medical transformation caused by a major breakthrough in physics because of the Fusion of Quantum Mechanics, Gravitation, Electromagnetism, the Weak Interaction, and the Strong Interaction.

The new insights are explained by the Octonions that are extensions of the complex numbers. The octonions represent rotations of rotations of rotations (Sprials) in 8D space. Spiraling spirals have always been seen as the sources of our universe. See Chapter 0 Introduction.

The Big Transformation (Chapter 1) is the move from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius being the change of Dualistic Science to Non-Dualistic Science (Advaita) finding a shared Unity (1-ness), between what we See and what we Are.

The Shared Unity of Reality and the Self could be the Zero (0), of the nothingness of the Nilpotency (chapter 0) of the Heart of the Universe where 0=0 or the 1 of the Unity of the Point of the Singularity of the Bindu (the Zero-Point Field)or the 2 of the Line of the Observer of Projective Geometry,(Chapter 2)

and the 0+1+2=3 Dimensions of Space and the Trinity of the Triangle of the 2+3=5 of the Pentagram of the Chinese Sheng Cycle.

In this Blog I Combine (Part 3), Change/ Transformation (Part 1 ) and Geometry (Part 2).

In Chapter 0 You will see that Physics can be explained by the Octonions being a Combination of the Combination (Quaternions) of the combination (Complex Numbers) of the Real Numbers being Rotations of Rotations of Rotations (= Spirals)of Space.

## 0 Introduction: The Nilpotent Universe

The Big Bang is an interpolation of the Expanding Universe to a theoretical Beginning. In Part 2 you will learn that there is a lot of doubt about this concept.

The main reason is that the foundational measurements of the “speed of Light” prove to be wrong destroying the theory of Albert Einstein.

The big problem is that a Big Bang needs a lot of Energy but also generates the same question again and again until we believe in an always returning, Cyclic Universe.

If you are willing and able to read this chapter you will see that the solution to our biggest and most expensive scientific problem is very simple and applicable to all the other exact sciences including Biology:

Our Universe is a self-replicating Turing Machine and

the Human is a Bio-computer connected to the Bio-field.

This 0th chapter contains links and texts that prove that our Universe is Nilpotent meaning that all the Values of the Parts Sum to Zero.

This makes it possible to bring a lot of the most complex formula’s back to simple formula that show very simple connections that can be explained by Symmetry Breaking.

Our Universe can be explained by simple building blocks that unite and disconnect in a very simple way that can be described by a simple machine just as the old Magus Leibniz imagined. He called this the principle of sufficient reason:

““Dieu a choisi celuy qui est… le plus simple en hypotheses et le plus riche en phenomenes” (God has chosen that which is the most simple in hypotheses and the most rich in phenomena)”.

The most useful Production rules” of the grammar of the Universe are the so called Octonions a generalization of the complex numbers in 8 (2**3) dimensions where i, j en k are √-1. are the foundation of the Quaternions. The most important point here is that he Complex numbers, the Quaternions and the Octionions represent Rotations in N-dimensional Space.

Our Universe rotates and its rotations rotate also generating changes that are unchanged. We always move back to the beginning that is Empty (“zero”). History Repeats Itself and patterns repeat themselves in so many different the same ways that most people don’t see that we are repeating the repetitions on every level of scale until the smallest Planck level and the biggest universe. The patterns are Scale-Free.

This is the Chinese Sheng Cycle (SC) which is result of the Lo Shu Magic Quadrant projected on Paths of Xhange.

Observe that the Model of Peter Rowlands looks a lot like the model I use (PoC) with the big difference that PoC is a Dynamic Model. In the Sheng Cycle you see the combination of Duality (<->) and Trinity by making a connection to the other Dualities. The Paths of Cange moves With (Producing) and against the Clock (Consuming).

Paths of Change (PoC) is based on a Dual model that contains two variables (1): Agency(Compression) & (2): Communion (Expansion) which are the same as Yin & Yang. 2×2= 4 = 2**2. 4 points have 12 + 1 (center) = 13 connections. Because of the 12 connections PoC contains many Triangels.

PoC contains 4 Points of View (PoV) called Unity (Blue, Rules, Thinking), Sensory (Sensory Meter System, Real Red), Social (Emotions, Green) and Mythic( Creation, View, Imagination), Yellow).

Time and Charge are Imaginary unless we use a Clock like the Earth rotating the Sun or the Polestar rotating with the Precession cycle.

Space is Real when we move on Earth using a Reference System that also could be the Stars and the Planets we can see with our personal Sensors. Mass is Real because we experience Mass as an Attraction of a bigger Mass (Earth) and sense the influence of the Moon in the rise of the Sea. Mass & Charge are Attractors and Not Attractors and are therefore related to the Emotions.

Mass & Charge are “Conserved” Physical quantities that remain constant with time are called conserved quantities. Example, for a body under external force, the kinetic and potential energy change over time but the total mechanical energy (kinetic + potential) remains constant. The appearance of a given amount of positive charge in one part of a system is always accompanied by the appearance of an equal amount of negative charge somewhere else in the system;

Mass & Charge contain a “negative” and a “positive” value we could define as “zero”. According to Peter the Universe is Nilpotent meaning that its sum is always zero. This implies that the (Sum of the) Beginning of the Universe was Zero too (Empty).

The mathematician Emily Noeter proved that every conservation can be translated in a special type of Symmetry (see Chapter 2).

## A Big Transformation is Predicted by The Precession Cycle

There are many Cycles with different Periodicities. The longest Cycle known by the ancient Astrologers is the Precession Cycle with a cycle-time of 25800 years. The cycle runs retrograde, in de opposite direction as the Seasonal cycle and covers the twelf Constellations of the Zodiac. An age takes 25800/12= 2150 years.

A much shorter cycle is the Kondratiev with a periodicity of about 50 years. Currently we are moving from the Kondratiev Winter to the Kondratiev Spring a period in which many disruptions take place. After the Spring we will move into the Golden Age (Summer).

An Age takes (2150/50=43 Kondratiev-cycles.

43=3×13+4 = is called the Bronze Mean X(n+2) = 3*X(n+1) + X(n), and is a generalization of the Golden Mean.

13=1+3×4 (Zodiac=Sun in Center, Jesus + 12 Disciples)), (Square) 4= 1+3×1, which means that x0=1 (Point,Zero Emptiness, ).

43 is the number of the Sri Yantra

We are allegedly in the Age of Aquarius.

According to astrologic we are leaving the Age of Pisces (started around 0BC. In Luke 22:10, when jesus (the Fisherman) is asked by his 12 apostles where he will go to settle
his new kingdom, he responds, “Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there
shall a man meet you bearing a pitcher of water, follow him into the house where
he entereth in.” This is the “
House of Aquarius”.

Perception involves the more central regions making predictions, which propagate toward the peripheral (sensory) regions. The peripheral regions compare the prediction with incoming sensory information and send back prediction error signals. This happens across numerous layers.

We see what we expect to see, with the incoming information forcing corrections.

Solms notes that a self evidencing system receiving information that violates its expectations can react in one of three ways.

1. It can act to change conditions to bring the signals more in line with its expectations.
2. It can change which representation(s) it’s currently using to make better predictions. This is perception.
3. It can adjust the precision of the predictions to more optimally match the incoming signal.

Solms identifies the last as Consciousness.

## 2 Geometry

“Imagination is more important than knowledge For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand” (Albert Einstein)

In this blog I Combine (Conformal) Geometry and Change-management

In a Conformal Geometry you look at the world with the (cognitive) Instrument of a fisheye-lens.

In a conformal geometry Big and Small are comparable. This means that our Universe is Fractal or as was stated by the ancient Magi as As Above so Below: Our mind is a simulation of the universe.

The feedback-loops in the cell-like structures of self-propelling space can be seen as a giant mind (a neural network) that is split in many (in)dependent minds. One of these minds is the mind of the Human but cells, the body, the brain, earth, our galaxy and the universe are also mindful” (Reginald Cahill)

According to Conformal Field Theory (CFT) we live on the almost Flat Boundary (“a Frame“) of a “sliced” (“layered”) (hyperbolic) Anti-de-Sitter Space.Observe the “fisheye-structure”on top and below of the 3D-“tube”.

Above you see 3 types of space in which space is curved at a special way in which the sum of the angles is equal smaller or bigger than 180 degrees. Observe that the all the types have their own way to define a RIGHT angle which is a way to define a new dimension.

Christi Belcourt (Métis) – The Wisdom of the Universe, 2014

Julian Barbour (Physicist, writer of the book “The end of Time“): The only thing that Exists in our Universe are Changing Shapes. “There is no invisible river of time. But there are Shapes that you could call Instants of Time, or ‘Nows‘. As we live, we seem to move through a succession of Nows, and the question is, what are they? They are arrangements of everything in the universe Relative to each other in any moment, for example, now“.

Currently we measure Time with an artificial constructed (atom-)Clock. Before the invention of the clock time was related to the cyclical processes in the year that were related to the movement of the (Male)Sun and the (Female)Moon.

The big patterns were related to the movement of the Stars that are related to the Precession Cycle. At that time the Map of the Sky and the Map of the Earth were aligned. This means that the maps of the Earth are projections of star maps but also that the locations on earth where looking like the patterns in the sky. A good example is the Seven Cities of Paul in the Apocalypse that were aligned to the Pleiades.

The Geometry of Shapes (“Similarity Geometry“) is the most important geometry because it contains the Potential of creation. This Geometry corresponds with Mythic in paths of Change (the Creative Personality) and Equality Matching in the theory about Social Relationships of Alan Fiske. It can also be found as the Hero in the Myths of all Cultures researched by Joseph Campbell., the Fool (o) in the Tarot, Zero in the Numbersystem and Λ or in Set Theory.

he most used geometry is Euclidian Geometry. We measure everything. Even our relationships are measured in terms of values like money and possession. We have forgotten to value social contributions.

## In the Beginning

The blog begins after a few Video’s about the current insight about the Geometry of the Universe. It looks like our Universe is without a beginning and an end but also without Time and Space. It is filled with Infinite Possibilities.

The Tao-Te Ching:

The Tao is like a well:
used but never used up.
It is like the eternal void:
filled with infinite possibilities.

It is hidden but always present.
I don’t know who gave birth to it.
It is older than God.

In Hinduism, a Kalpa. , a Cycle of a Universe, is equal to 4.32 billion years, called a day of Brahma . In Hinduism, Brahmā (Sanskrit: meaning “swelling” or “expansion”) is God in his manifestation as Creator of the universe. Brahmā is part of the Trimurti (the Hindu Trinity) alongside Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma lives on top of Mount Meru (look at the triangle on the head of Brahma) also called Pascal’s Triangle (see Chapter 9).

## Force

When we push all the shapes together they will become a Black wHole. What is able to create such a Force? What lies behind the Black Hole? The Nothing, Empty Space? Is Empty space Possible? Is the Sum of Things Zero or Infinite (8)?

About the Conformal Booststrap : Geoffrey Chew, “Nature is as it is because this is the only possible nature consistent with itself,”

It is possible to unite all the different theories of the universe by playing with the the Dimensions and geometry of space which could be flat or curved in a positive or negative way.

This blog is still under Construction.

## 1 The Pragmatism of Charles Sanders Peirce

Writing chapter 12 has generated (as always) many issues I never thought about before. The major cause is Charles Sanders Peirce , (1839-1914) the “inventor” of Semiotics and the first Pragmatist in the Us. He believed that science is finished when the theories are working in Practice but also that the Laws and Constants of Nature are changing all the time.

In this blog you wil find out that current science has moved far away from he path of converging because it lost its foundation. This foundation lies behind the imagination in the nothing.

After my encounter with Peirce I stumbled upon The theory of J. W.Dunne who experimented with predicting the Future and discovered Hyperspace.

Looking for Hyperspace gave the link to ANPA, an organization of scientists who try to understand the Paranormal. After that I rediscovered (New) Thinking Allowed (NTA), a YouTube-channel of Jeffrey Mislowe, a wellknown para-psychologist.

I (re)discovered NTA because I have always been interested in the paranormal because I was ” paranormal” since I was a child. Ghosts visited me when I was young and when I was older I became “enlightened” (“a terrifying experience”).

Looking for an interesting issue on NTA I rediscovered Alien Abductions and the Grays (our descendants out of the Future), an issue I also encountered when I met the medium Judith Moore. by accident. She helped me to understand what was happening to me after my Jump of my Kundalini that caused many strange effects. Through Judith I discovered that I was of the lineage of the Persian Magi.

As you can see this Blog grows by accident because I Explore (a connection between the Imagination and Action) every Possible paths just as Nature is doing.

## Introduction in Semiotics

If we are to proceed in a logical and scientific manner; we must; in order to account for the whole universe; suppose an initial condition in which the wholeuniverse was non  existent; and therefore a state of absolute nothing:…We start; then; with nothing; pure zero: But this is not the nothing of negation: For not means other than; and other is merely a synonym of the ordinal numeral second: As such it implies a first; while the present pure zero is prior to even first: The nothing of negation is the nothing of death; which comes second to; or after; everything: But this pure zero is the nothing of not having been born: There isno individual thing; no compulsion outward nor inward; no law: It is the germinal nothing; in which the whole universe is involved or foreshadowed: As such; it is absolutely undefined and unlimited possibility  boundless possibility There is no compulsion and no law: It is boundless freedom:(Collected papers of S. Peirce, 1931)

When you look at he 2 pictures below who are taken out of the second link about Semiotics you can see that the Representamen is an intermediary beween the Duality of the Object (Event, Outside) and the Subject (Inside, Square, (Mind<-> Senses)<-> (Emotions<->Imagination).

In the third picture below you see that the Triangel is a Connection of 3 Dualities.

## MetaMyth

The metamyth is a model that contains all the myths in every culture. This myth is defined by Joseph Campbell in his book The Hero with a thousand Faces.

## 4 Infinite Games

This is Version 2. In this version I have finished the Educational part of this blog (Chapter 1) and I have started to write about the Geometry of Change. in chapter 12.

In this part I advice you to spend some time on a video of George Lakoff one of the Leading Scientists in Embodied Cognition . This part of Cognition Theory is based on the Fusion of Complementary concepts (“Bisocation“).

Will McWhinney gave me a book of J.P. Carse called Infinite Games. Infinite games are the opposite of the Finite Game that ends when somebody has won. The Infinite Game is a Game that Creates Games. It is the game of the Trickster. The same Dichotomy can be found in the difference between a Vocation and a Career. In a career (a Racetrack) you Win or Lose.

In this blog you will find that the Finite Game of the Controllers is related to Affine Geometry (Order, Ranking, Being the Same) and the Infinite Game of the Trickster to the Similarity Geometry (Being Different). There are two more Geometries that are related to Measures (Euclidian) and Connections (Projective).

## Artificial Intelligence

We are witnessing the birth of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has nothing to do with Intelligence. It is producing Artificial Humans that beat humans in many area’s (Chess, GO) but still not in Mathematics. Just like you’re calculator you have the choice to be dependent on a machine or to become an exception a human who is able to calculate by Head. Every new Technology makes us more dependent from this new technology (“the so called Automation Paradox)

## Symmetry

This is one of the most interesting documents about the Foundations of Physics and Mathematics I have read for a very long time. It shows what I already wrote down a few years ago about Geometric Algebra that the Number system opens up new number systems when to want to Reverse what you did.

The Positive numbers end by zero and move over to the negative numbers. When you standardize repeating adding and call it multiply dividing ends when you reach zero. Repeating multiplying generates the square roots that end with the negative numbers generating the Imaginary numbers (i=SqRT-1) but this is not the end. Generalizing the imaginary numbers (the Quaternions) created numbers nobody understood until it was found that they are Rotations in N-Dimensional Space.

Peter Rowland surprises by showing that the symmetries in the symmetries show the Implicate Order of David Bohm and more important that zero (“truly empty) is the Beginning (“alpha”) and the end (“omega”). Which means that the universe is always in balance.

## Duality & Polarity

If a statement is true its Negation is also true. In geometry Points also called incidents are lines that Meet and Lines are unions of Points. A point is not-Space and is empty and Flat space is a union of lines. True Statements can be rephrased with different components that create new truths about existing components. The next step is Category Theory in which you can reason with theories (called Functors) as objects called Types.

The third video is about the emerging Global Brain. The first two video’s are about the Foundation of Mathematics which is based on Contradiction . The fourth video is about the Human Relationship theory of Alan Fiske.THis theory is a Bridge between Geometry and Change Management.

## History of this Blog

The reason behind this blog is explained in the last chapter of my blog About the Ecology of the State.

In the blog about the Ecology of the State I reused a blog about Anti-Fragility, a new name for Resilience. Resilience is a major variable in the theory of Panarchy which is a theory about Ecologies.

I combined Panarchy with Paths of Change also a Theory about change and the theory of Alan Fiske about Human relationships. This combination gave me the insight that there is a shared Geometry behind many of the theories tabout Change.

This blog gives you an opportunity to combine the theories yourself. I also will show you that this geometry was known for a very long time ago mainly starting in India (See “Vedic Mathematics“). In the interpretation of the Theory of Alan Fiske the Scales of Measurement play an important role. I have created a special Chapter 8. for this subject.

In this blog I want to explore the Geometry of Change. To make it possible that others are also able to think about Geometries this blog contains many Educational Videos’.

## 7 Geometry

As you can see in this Chapter Geometry is very old. It was the Foundation of Art, Architecture , the State and Religion. People have been fascinated by Patterns like the visible patterns Up in the Sky of the Sun, Moon Planets and the Zodiac but also the patterns in numbers. Out of Geometry many sciences have grown that were grouped in schools sometimes called a University. Behind he patterns music was found and music was also created using patterns. The most important Music was the Music of the Spheres . This chapter is Big. It contains many Video’s that contain simulations. The main reason is that you have to See (“insight”) the Theory to understand the Practice.

## How Physics, Movement, Symbols and Sound are supported by Geometry

The geometry of our space has zero curvature. In spaces with positive or negative curvature other rules are valid. George Bernhard Riemann developed a new geometrical concept by imagining a 2-dimensional bookworm living on a 3D crumpled sheet of paper.

The surface of the paper would seem to be flat and undistorted. Because the worm can only perceive two dimensions it would not be able to detect that his own body crumples with the paper in the higher dimension. The “force” that would keep the bookworm from moving in a straight line was not a mysterious “action at a distance”, but a result of the unseen warping from the third dimension.

You can imagine a similar experience by walking a straight line on a rotating platform. To you the shortest connection is a straight line while you move with a curve when observed by someone outside the platform. The geometry changes the idea that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

It even changes the idea that we return on the same point when we move in a loop (“circle”). This happens when our space contains one or more holes (“singularities”, “dividing by zero”).

With this example you can learn that it makes a lot of Difference when you are In (Intrinsic) or Outside (Extrinsic) the Context.

## 8 Theory of Measurement

Measurements can be made through the human Senses or through the use of a measurement Instruments.

Measurement is the assignment of Numerals to a system according to a set of rules.  These rules are called a Theory.

Our senses or the instruments that are used to measure the system also represent a theory. This theory has a sometimes unknown impact on our measurement.

To avoid the Bias of the Theory behind our Measurement Systems a theory has to be a Structure Preserving mapping, a homomorphism. The Structure of the system has to stay the same when the rules are applied.

If the theory does not preserve structure the theory introduces its own theory and we are not measuring the original system.

Not only the primary theory has to be a homomorphism. The complete chain of theories we use has to preserve the structure (The Uniqueness Axioma) of the original system.

To avoid Bias a System of Measurement Scales is defined.

a Nominal Scale defines Sets. Sets contain the Same elements. When we want to preserve structure  we have to satisfy the constraint If s1 = s2 ⇔ f(s1) = f(s2) (“the Same stays the Same”). This is called the Symmetric group, the group of all Permutations of the objects in the Set.

The Ordinal Scale is part of the nominal scale. The relational structure preserved during the measurement process preserves equality and order. The set of admissible transformations are relations that satisfy the constraint If s1 < or >s2 ⇔ f(s1) < or >f(s2). This is called the Order-Preserving Group and is the group of monotonic increasing functions.

The Interval Scale has to satisfy the constraint  If s1−s2 = s3−s4 ⇔ f(s1)−f(s2)=f(s3)−f(s4).This is called the General Linear Group (or Affine Group).  Differences can only be preserved when the transformation is a Linear transformation Ax + B where A is a Rotation and B is Translation (Displacement).

The Ratio Scale has to satisfy the constraint If s1/s2 = s3/s4 ⇔ f(s1)/f(s2) = f(s3)/f(s4). This is called the Linear Group. The only transformation that satisfies this constraint is the functions f(x) = Ax. This means that the only tranasformation that is left is muliplication and division (“not by zero!). which is transl;lated in Expansion and Compression the object of Topology.

## Geometry, the Art of Transformation Size, Shape and Symmetry.

Figures shown in the same color are similar. A similar structure can be transformed by Rotation, Translation (Displacement) and Scaling (Multiplication), “blow up/down”).

With Geometric Algebra you can Calculate with Shapes. Geometric algebra is a very convenient representational and computational system for geometry. It is going to be the way computer science deals with geometrical issues. It contains, in a fully integrated manner, linear algebra, vector calculus, differential geometry, complex numbers and quaternions as real geometric entities, and lots more.

Geometric Algebra brings us back to the Tetractys of Pythagoras which shows the Fourth triangular number which is part of the Triangle of Pascal.also called the Yang Hui in China and Mount Meru in Sanskrit. The Triangle of Pascal contains many Fractal structures that were used a very long time ago in Music (Rythms), Art & Architecture (Proportions) and Numerology (“The Art of interpreting Patterns in Numbers).

## 9 Mount Meru

the roots of all the geometries can be found in Ancient Indian Mathematics.

## It all comes back to Breathing

Realize that the 3D version of Panarchy is also a 3D version of the Movement of the Relational Models of Alan Fiske and their related Geometries in Cognitive Space and the movement of many Concepts that share the same Worldviews of Path of Change.

Also Realize that Panarchy is a result of a theory (Cultural Theory) that is based on the same Worldviews of PoC and of Alan Fiske that can be explained by a 2×2 Matrix containing the variables Agency and Communion that are the same as Yin and Yang.

Agency and Communion also determine the Big Five the most used Personality Classification (and many others)

Yin and Yang are also represented by 0 and 1 and therefore the Triangle of Pascal represents the many combinations of possible personalities on earth but is also a result of a completely different System (Geometries) to calculate Combinations. Think about (X>Y)**n (Affine) or (X-Y)**n (Euclidian) as an example (X>Y)**n is a Program (“Protocol”) to n times create all the possible combinations of X>Y.

It is therefore also not strange to call the total process of the movement of Expansion (Yin) and Compression (Yang) in space the Cosmic Breath named the Svara in Sanskrit. Svara स्वर (svara and svāra): Voice, musical note, sound; note of the musical scale, tone in recitation, accent in grammar, symbolic expression.

## 11 About Perspectives and Projective Geometry

Projective Geometry PG)is a result of Perspective Drawing

As you can see in the picture above PG makes use of drawing Lines that connect the Point of the Eye (the Sensor) with the \Planes and Points of the Object of the Drawing. Observe that the object is a Sphere. and that the two lines connect with the sphere at the Horizon which is a line we often confuse with Infinity(“the point we will never reach”).. Also observe that the rear-end of the Sphere is invisible.

The pole of the Sphere can be connected to Parallel Lines that Never Cross. The lines connected to the eye of the artist and the Pole always have an Angle>0.

PG Connects many Points(“people”) by Lines (“Connectors“) and is there fore highly comparable with Communal Sharing of Fiske and Social of PoC.

## What Perspectives have in Common.

What is a Point of View?

Moving one step Higher in Abstraction.

In 1872 Felix Klein, published a new Mathematical Research Program called the Erlangen Program under the title Vergleichende Betrachtungen über neuere geometrische Forschungen.

In this program Projective Geometry was emphasized as the Unifying Frame for all other Geometries.

Although lines in the Projective Plane meet in one point of Infinity Klein argued that there could be two points of Infinity if the Projective Plane was a Surface Closed in Itself.

When we look at the Origin of Projective Geometry, the Artist painting A Sphere, Earth, on a Flat Surface, it is not difficult to realize that this Closed Surface is a Sphere. This sphere is projected on a plane that contains the imaginary numbers that are solutions of the cross-ratio when the 4 points 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 are not on a circle.

## Refresh and Surprise

First I present a few Slides to refresh your knowledge about the Background of the Blog or to surprise you.

In chapter 13 start to talk about the Geometries of Change.

The issue of this chapter is to help you to think about related issues like Machines, Cybernetics, the Anticipatory System of Rosen but also about Semiotics.

You don’t have to understand everything and you can also skip as many issues as you want.

I hope you become inspired to look at the geometry with another view (“I hope the Mythic“) and see the Magic (“have you looked at . the video about “Mystic Geometry in Chapter 1″?).

## Mind, Machines and Anticipatory Systems

https://www.slideserve.com/dora/robert-rosen-and-george-lakoff-the-role-of-causality-in-complex-systems

## Atopoiesis

Autoiesis is about Self-Reproduction or Repair during Production. Neil Theise loops from makro-levels to micro-levels of what we call reality. He explains complexity, autopoiesis, positive &negative feedback-loops, cancer and how all that relates to us in the universe and the universe in us? Why ants move away from their territory to come back when they have found the food that is needed.

ROBERT ROSEN AND GEORGE LAKOFF: THE ROLE OF CAUSALITY IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS – PowerPoint PPT Presentation

The presentation behind the link above explains the theory of Robert Rosen in combination of the theory of George Lakoff. For the last one move below. For the first one explore this blog about Meta-Engineering. As you will see is that the presentation tells a comparable story as Chapter 2 about measurement in the way that it explains that a model is a mapping from something we experience outside with our senses (A natural system) or with our instruments and we have to make a structure preserving mapping to avoid that we introduce a bias with our measurement instruments.

The first thing you have to realize is that you have been looking at pictures that describe the same subject with different names. All of them are about Change and Change looks like Breathing <-.-> (Contract/Expand). Below you see the Expansion Pattern of “nothing”/. This pattern is controlled by the Trinity, the number 3 and the Triangel. This pattern is called the Bronze Mean. It is a specialization of the Golden mean. The bronze mean contains a very important number 43.

The first picture of this paragraph contains a Cycle connected to another Cycle where both cycles move in opposite direction showing the well known Moebius Ring (8). The model contains a center that contains the model of the whole. This is called a fractal. When you compare this model with other models look at the colors. I have used the same colors of PoC all the time.

## 13 About Affine Geometry, Maps, Metaphors and Mappings

In the model of the Geometry of Change you see that Blue, named Unity in PoC and Knowledge in other models is called an Affine Geometry and is connected the concept Rank and the Constraint If s1 < or >s2 ⇔ f(s1) < or >f(s2) which is called the Order-Preserving Group. Knowledge is an Order but what order?

The solution to this puzzle can be found at the beginning of this blog where you read the sentence “The role of Higher Dimensions in Physics and Mathematics”. The concept Dimension is used to define a Ranking of Spaces.

## 14 About Euclidian Geometry, Distance and the Horizon

In the picture above you see the Horizon. Horizon is related to Horizontal, a line that is perpendicular to a line that moves from Up to Down or Back. the horizon is an Illusion because we live on a Globe. Behind the Horizon we see nothing but we know that there is something behind the Horizon. In our Perspective the Horizon is the place where parallel lines Cross. The word horizon derives from the Greek “ὁρίζων κύκλος” horizōn kyklos, “separating circle”,[3] where “ὁρίζων” is from the verb ὁρίζω horizō, “to divide”, “to separate”,[4] which in turn derives from “ὅρος” (oros), “boundary, landmark. The horizon is a symbol for infinity (“the place we never will reach” but also something we can find wen we keep on moving at the right direction.

## About Deep Learning & Euclidian and Non-Euclidian Shapes.

This video explains Neural Networks using Graphs that are able to recognize Non-Euclidian Objects.

Below you see a picture and a presentation of Kent Palmer. He found out that the term Scape (Schap in Dutch) we use in Landscape is used to imagine a “flat plane” . In dutch and english scape is also translated into ship (“Friendship, vriendschap) being a relationship that carries as a tray, something to hold something.

Perspectives are about seeing something but seeing is used as an insight. We look at our personal frame.

A Few years ago I gave a presentation about Context to Software-architects about Mikhail Bahktin: The Wordwide Carnival: A Short Introduction into the World of Mikhail Bakhtin. He was a Russian Philosopher that was put into a Goelag-camp by stalin. He was an expert in Dialog and what he called the Chronotope: “The place where the knots of narrative are tied” or “the intrinsic connectedness of temporal and spatial relationships”.

# About the Ecology of the City & the State

The last chapter of this blog is put into a new blog that contains a lot of links that are about the fusion of Quantum Mechanics and “old” theories of Physics. This fusion proves that we are living in the Matrix.

This blog is an Extension of the last chapter of my blog about the Future of the State. In this blog I come to the conclusion that the State or the City-state makes The Rich Richer and the Poor poorer.

The main reason is that the State is an Aristocracy that looks like a Democracy.

The State is a Contradictio in terminis: It accomplishes the Opposite it wants to accomplish.

The main reason is that the managers of the state believe in controlling everything instead of Self-Organization (P-Anarchy).

As you will later see in this blog this effect is the result of Dualism which is the foundation of Current Science. This problem is solved in Complexity Science, the Subject of this Blog.

I have transformed the last chapter of this blog into a new blog. called The Geometry of Change.

This blog is not a scientific article but a collage that contains many intellectual surprises.

Observe that the agents are rotating With and Against the Clock. A combination of both is a Moebius Ring (looks like 8).

this Blog discusses a Design for an Alternative of he City and/or the State based on the idea that they are an Ecology. An Ecology Dies when there is not enough Diversity. The same applies to a City or a State. You are diverse when you are Different.

For more info about what an Ecology is see Chapter 3. Below you can see the Design.

Observe that the Wheel of Time is propagating itself by exploding at the right moment just like a motor . This explosion is the Fusion of the Aha-erlebnis, the Feeling of Discovery.

Observe that the 5th view is called Whole (white). It is the center of the system (Monitor) put into the System itself. Putting a whole in a whole is called a fractal.

In this short introduction I show you the very rich knowledge of Ancient Civilizations that already existed > 620.00 BC. They contain the roots of the concept of the state but also of the many conflicts we are totally not aware of that are now hidden behind the walls of Religion.

This blog starts with a few pictures and links to related articles about Urban Ecologies and some quotes and interesting video’s about Complexity Science which is the Toolset I try to Use in this blog.

The models of Urban Ecologies are Control/Cybernetic Systems.

After the models I explain what Complexity Science is about using two PDF’s, 2 citations and a video of Stuart Kaufman, Nassim Taleb and Robert Sapolski.

After the video’s I present a List of Chapters with a short description of the content of the chapters and Chapter 0: Introduction which is the “real” beginning of this blog .

If you are in a hurry move to Chapter 16.

Complexity Science is not about the Parts but about the Whole. The Notes are not the Music played with the notes. The Meal is not the recipe. The City is not its Citizens

The basic components of a complex adaptive systems are called agents. They are typically conceived as ‘black box’ systems, meaning that we know the rules that govern their individual behaviour, but we do not care about their internal structure.

Nassim Taleb:“We have the illusion that the world functions thanks to programmed design, university research, and bureaucratic funding, but there is compelling — very compelling — evidence to show that this is an illusion.  Technology is the result of antifragility, exploited by risk-takers in the form of tinkering and trial and error.  Engineers and tinkerers develop things while history books are written by academics; we will have to refine historical interpretations of growth, innovation, and many such things. … The error of naive rationalism leads to overestimating the role and necessity of … academic knowledge, in human affairs — and degrading the uncodifiable, more Complex, intuitive, or experience-based type”.

Below you can find a picture that tries to explain Panarchy (see chapter 3). The colors are a link to PoC (chapter 4). A pandemic is the result of a jump (Revolt) from a Virus part of the Human Body-Ecology to a Social Network (and further a City).

## 0. Introduction

In this blog I am trying to find out if it is possible to use Complexity Theory to design a Fair Self Organizing Structure to replace the State.

To do that I reuse a blog about Anti-Fragility and the theory of Panarchy that is made to explain an Ecology.

In the end of this blog I will use all the acquired knowledge to design a new model for a State and a City.

A Cycle is a Selforganizing System. We experience many Cyclic processes like Day and Night and the Seasons.

virtually everything that happens on Earth runs in cycles—our climate, the markets, political systems, societies, wars, financial ups-and-downs, etc. Our ancestors have known this for centuries.

Practically all living processes are organised in cycles. The organism is thick with biological rhythms ranging from periods of split seconds for electrical activities of brain cells to seconds such as the heart-beat and respiration, to periods which are circadian and circannual. But no one has ever been able to explain why that should be.

The answer is provided by thermodynamics. It turns out that symmetrically coupled cycles are the key to both the conservation of coherent energy and compensation (or cancelling out) of entropy within the system so that living organisation is maintained.

As one cycle of activity is running down, it is charging up a second cycle, so that the role can be reversed later. Similarly, as disorder is created in some part of the system, a kind of superorder appears in elsewhere, which can restore order to the first part” (Mae Wan Ho).

Observe that MAe Wan Ho uses a theory that explains Anti-Fragility (“Order out of Disorder“) called Thermodynamics. Mae Wan Ho wrote this text long before the concept Anti-fragility was invented. Thermodynamics comes back in Chapter 8.

The Life Cycle of the Organism consists of a self-similar fractal structure of cycles.

At a certain point in time Humans detected the cyclic processes in the Night Sky that took more than a life-time to return to their beginning. They found he Cycle of the Precession of the Equinox.

observe that a lot of the Cycles Rotate around other Cycles. A rotating rotation is a Spiral.

The State and the City, the Mother of the state, are not alone a Boundary in Space but are also a Cyclic System .that synchronizes with all the other Cyclic systems in its environment (Growth Cycle of Agriculture, Sun cycle, Seasons, Moon Cycle/ Menstruation Cycle, Great Cycle of the Precession, ..).

In this blog I introduce Complexity Theory (CT) to design a new type of State, the Self Organizing State or city. CT shows that when we Stop controlling a system It will Self-organizes.

Humans contain cells, contain molecules contain atoms etc etc. The organizing principle repeats until the deepest level ,the vacuum but it also moves up until Cities States and the Earth.

This blog contains examples of a new model for the State and the City who was the Mother of the State.

This model is based on the model of Panarchy. Panarchy is a model of an Ecology.

If you are only interested in the model move to Chapter 12.

I hope you already believe that the State is an Ecology. If you believe this please realize that Complexity Theory tells you that you have to Trust the Self-Organizing power of the State. So stop organizing and Remove the Barriers of all the control systems.

There is a special Linkedin-Group created for people who want to discuss the future of the State.

I have started this blog September 9 2020 . It is intended as the last chapter of my already finished blog About the Future of the State.

In my blog About the Future of the State (“the initial blog“) I have given a lot of information about what is going wrong with the Constitutional State and many theories about how states work.

The biggest problem is that the Constitutional State is controlled by an Aristrocratic Elite organized as a Tribe that profits from the Power and the Taxsystem of the State.

A (powerful) Politial party looks like a Tribe.

Many International or local Conflicts are Tribal Conflicts.

The highly needed Redistribution of the Wealth from the Rich to the Poor in the economy does not take place. The rich get Richer and the `Poor get Poorer.

## 2. Latour and the Parliament of Things:

The most interesting link in the initial blog is a Statement called How to Think as a State of the French Philosopher Bruno Latour to the WRR a Scientific advisoryBoard to the King of the Netherlands about the Future of the State.

In this statement he explains the Parliament of Things (PoT) comparable to the IoT.

In the PoT humans organisms, lakes, mountains cars and other things are represented.

PoT is a concept that questions the way we organize our State. It questions also what a representional democracy really represents. Does it represent all things that are born and die including the animals that have no language or is the system of representation a simulator that hides the Games we Play.

## 3. The State is an Ecology that is part of the World-System:

Latour gave me the idea that the State is an Ecology.

An Ecology is a Complex multi-layered Redistribution System that contains a wide array of interacting levels of organization spanning micro-level (e.g., cells, humans) to a planetary scale (e.g., biosphere).

If you want, replace in this definition the components of the Ecology with the components of the City or the State and see what you get. Do you miss something?.

A Complex System has distinct Properties that arise from its relationships, such as nonlinearity, emergence, spontaneous order, adaptation, and feedback loops, among others.

An explaining theory of the State is called World System Theory (WST).In this case the state is a System (a World, the domain of Man), a Boundary in Space/Time that operates at the level of the Earth.

WST can be combined with the theory of the Long-Time Cycles mostly related to Kondratiev but also to Marx, Polanyi and Schumpeter.

If you look below at the pictures and read this you will see that the kondratiev-wave is in its 5th state with the color White and the subject Whole. The wave will be at its top around 2050.

The technology in this phase is called Global Brain. Gobal Brain has a lot to do with what now is called Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI has a lot to with the Big Brother State that is now created in China.

Global Brain could be the Brain of an Entrained Collective. see chapter 11.

]

The kondratiev Cycle is represented as a Spiral and is related to the Meta-Narrative (Chronotope) of Bahktin and PoC by their colors.

Blue is the color of the Law of Rome and Red is the color of he Actions of Alexander who conquered almost the complete World at his time. Yellow is the color of Spirit seen in The rise of Art in the Renaissance and the Rise of Christianity.

Green is the color of Social related to Social conflicts like the French Revolution. White is the color of the Center (The Whole) . White is always combined with a New World Religion. It could be related to the return of the Maitrea expected in many Religions.

There have been three kinds of historical systems across human history: “mini-systems” or what anthropologists call bands, tribes, and small chiefdoms, and two types of world-systems, one that is politically unified and the other is not (single state world empires and multi-polity world economies). World-systems are larger, and are ethnically diverse. The modern world-system, a capitalist world-economy, is unique in being the first and only world-system, which emerged around 1450 to 1550, to have geographically expanded across the entire planet, by about 1900.

It is defined, as a world-economy, in having many political units tied together as an interstate system and through its division of labor based on capitalist enterprises.

The Tribes never leave their State even when the states have grown into very big structures.

In the current capitalistic system many “tribes” (for instance the Oligarchs of russia) use the income of the state they control to fight their battles. These battles are now mostly faught using highly intelligent technology and weapons.

The Theory of Panarchy is used in many of my blogs. One of them is a Blog about Anti-Fragility called How to Benefit from Disorder and a Dutch version about the same issue. I will reuse these blogs.

Anti-Fragility happens when an Ecology moves Up (Revolt) to a New Fractal level. The opposite (Going Down) is called Remember. In this state the ecology saves some of its state in a place that acts as a Memory out of which o a Copy of the old state can be regenerated. This place is called a Sacred Grove.

A Sacred Grove is often a Sacred Place in a Wood. An example is the Cathedral of Chartres that was a sacred place for the Druids of the Celts.

In the UP-state The Ecology becomes Bigger and Slower in its Cyclic Frequency.

As a consequence of the periodic, but transient phases of Destruction (omega stage) and Reorganization (alpha stage), a system’s Structure and processes can be Reorganized.

This reshuffling allows for the establishment of new system configurations and opportunities for the incorporation of exotic and entirely novel entrants into the system. The adaptive cycle explicitly introduces mutations and rearrangements.

An Ecology is a Fractal Cyclic Adaptive Innovation System.

Panarchy is a conceptual framework created by Gunderson and Holling to account for the dual, and seemingly contradictory, characteristics of all complex systemsstability and change.

Panarchy is a contradictory system. It fuses what cannot be fused .

Panarchy is the study of how Economic growth and Human development depend on Biological ecosystems and Social institutions, and how they interact.

It is an integrative framework, bringing together ecological, economic and social models of change and stability, to account for the complex interactions among both these different areas, and different scale levels.

No system can be understood or managed by focusing on it at a single scale. All systems exist and function at multiple scales of space, time and social organization, and the interactions across scales are fundamentally important in determining the dynamics of the system at any particular focal scale. This interacting set of hierarchically structured scales has been termed a “panarchy” (Gunderson and Holling 2003).

Panarchy shows that a Government that wants to optimize the State seen as an ecology will end up with a Decay of this state.

The only thing that helps is not to interfere and follow the cycle, as you can see in the picture below where every step moves between opposites (“tensions, “polarities “).

## 4. About Paths of Change:

Paths of Change (PoC) is a theory and a model about Change.

The model of Paths of Change is a 2D Fourfold pattern of Opposites called a Quaternion by Jung.

In this Chapter you will find many Paths (of Change) related to many Subjects in which PoC is used. Remember the PoC was known by the Hunter Gatherers.

There are old examples of the Games of PoC. For instance Chess, the Tarot, the Elements and the Dance of Shiva.

## 5. About the Roots of Panarchy: Cultural Theory:

The matrix pictured here, adapted from Michiel Schwarz and Michael Thompson (1990), is one presentation of a typology of worldviews called cultural theory.

It plots acceptance of social controls (on the vertical axis) and levels of social commitment (on the horizontal axis). In the quadrants, the worldviews or rationalities depicted are alternatively described as archetypes, ways of life, social solidarities, and myths or caricatures of nature.

“We postulate that these four ways of life are in conflict in every conceivable domain of social life,” write Michael Thompson and Marco Verwell (2004). “Each of the four ways of life consists of a specific way of structuring social relations and a supporting cast of particular beliefs, values, emotions, perceptions, and interests.”

“In the end, every type of social conflict is about types of organization,” writes anthropologist Mary Douglas (2006). “Why do we settle for four types? Because this model is at once parsimonious and it is comprehensive. A hundred, or a million, types of cultural bias may be out there. But for explanatory value three, four or five types of social environment are enough to generate three, four or five distinct cosmologies.”

“Each rationality will generate its own distinctive engineering aesthetic: its own definition of the good, the beautiful and the socially desirable,” write Schwarz and Thompson (1990). “Our concern, therefore, should not be with which one is right (for that would be to insist that just one rationality had access to ‘the truth’) but rather with which is appropriate to the task at hand.”

Below I present a comparable model of Alan Fiske:

## 6. About the Relational Model of Alan Fiske:

The Relational Models of Fiske look a lot like PoC.

The Four Views of Fiske are Four World-views Viewing at the Social Worldview (also being the Emotions).

(1): Communal Sharing: This is a Social Social group. People live together and Share things. People are treated as equivalent and undifferentiated. “What’s mine is thine; what’s thine is mine”. Fairness is important in such groups and appealing to values may be the best way to persuade. Conflict may be dealt with through mediation and others methods that seek consensus.

The Sensory view on Social Fiske calls a (2): Market=Pricing-relationship. We call this a Company. or a Community of Practice. I have repeated the picture of the Sensory view below.

As you can see a City is an expansion of the Sensory (red) view when we see a City as an Actor or Organism.

Scientists of the Santa Fe institute have found that a city behaves as an organism or a Super-organism.

(3): Equality Matching: Equality matched relationships generally collaborate around Shared goals and help one another. Relationships are reciprocal and have equal value. People treat fairly those who treat them fairly. See Tit-for-Tat as the solution of the Iterated Prisoners Dilemma.

4: Authority RankingSocial groups are arranged with a hierarchy of power. The top of the pyramid protects the lower layers.

Fiske found out that his Relational Models have a lot in common with the Scales used in Measurement Theory. We measure others the same way we measure objects and situations.

Scales are not only instruments to determine a Measurement-strategy. Scales are also ladders that bring you higher to get a better Point-of-View. This view is always blocked by the Horizon, the Point of Infinity.

The scales can be ordered in a cycle that looks like the cycle of Panarchy. The Scales and therefore the Social relations and therefore PoC and Panarchy can be related to four different Geometries.

Fiske and later Bolender found out “that there is a truly fundamental self-organizing physical process (symmetry braking) underlying social relationships that has hitherto been ignored,” They form a descending, nested series with successively fewer degrees of uniqueness (There are fewer ‘admissible’ transformations which preserve the same information).

Another explanation can be found in the spatial structure of the human body. In this context an important reference must be the work by Samuel Todes, especially his dissertation -published in 2001 by MIT Press and titled “Body and World.”.

Another explanation can be found in the Embodiment-theory of the group of George Lackof.

Humans learn about the other by copying. This faculty has been named mirror-neurons but is stil in discussion.

Another explanation is mutual entrainment, the tendency of coupled oscillators to fall into step that is widely observed in mechanical and biological systems.

The mathematical theory of Projective Geometry is a spin-off of the discovery of Perspective Drawing in the Renaissance. Drawing is a combination of Sensing and Action (Sensory-Motor-cortex).

## 7. Mapping the Fractal Model of Panarchy to Poc and Fiske:

The Cycles of Panarchy are fractal . They move with their own frequency. The scales are connected and Jumps Up (Revolt) and Down (Remember). Revolt looks like a Human Revolution Evolution in Biology and Anti-Fragile (being a state where the system changes and increases its Potential by being able to produce different (re)actions.

Panarchy is controlled by 3 Variables and moves in Time. This means that Panarchy is a 4D-Control feedback system. The variables are called Potential (Up/Down), Resilience (High/Low) and Connectedness (Communion, High/Low). Resilience looks like a Spring.

## 9. Flow Systems States and Estuaries:

The Ancient States Egypt and Sumer were based on an ecology mostly situated at an Estuary of of a Big River (Nile, Euphrate, Tigris) that ends in a sea.

The States got into big problems when the climate changed and raining stopped, the amount of sweet water went down in combination with the entering of salt water of the sea. This all destroyed the crops.

## 10.Harbours, the Silk Road and other Places of Exchange of Ideas:

Many old states were situated at an Entrance to the Sea (Harbour) to make Trade and Exchange of Ideas possible. Trade was also facilitated by being at an important node in a international trade route that crossed the Desert (The Silk Road).

The connection points were the point were Ideas, Philosophies and Theories were exchanged. The Harbors facilitated important Creative centers like Alexandria and Venice.

RandallCollins shows in his book Interacting Ritual Chains that Humans need the Entrainment of Special group Rituals to release Emotional Tensions. Successful rituals create symbols of group membership and pump up individuals with positive emotional energy.

## 12. Examples of A new Model of the State:

In this Chapter I put the models out of Chapter 1-12 in a special order in which the City or the State plays a central role.

The picture below shows a PoC-model with a pattern of a Moebius Ring.

The Moebius-ring (the number 8) is the model behind Panarchy. An ecology contains many connected 8’s. A connected Ecology could be called a Region.

The model contains the functions that can be found in a (big) city. The States grew out of Cities.

Cities look like Organisms. Organisms cooperate in super-organisms. An Ecology is a Super Organism (comparable to the Ants).

The second picture below the picture below is also a model of a (big) City . It contains the Social Networks described in Chapter 4 (About PoC) in the Center.

It also contains a Linear connected ValueChain I call a Value Cycle or a Value Network.

It also contains a Triangel with a Center that connects the many roles that could be implemented as a Monitor. A Monitor plays the role of the Observer, Consciousness. Its role is to Balance the Four Roles. In my opinion the State (or City) should play this role instead of playing the role of the Controller.

The patterns in this model you can seen at the right. They contain a Poc Cycle in a Poc Cycle containing many PoC-cycles that represent Humans.

The term Company (Red)Flow and Sensor represent Activities in the City represented as a Value Cycle. A Value Cycle is a Value Chain that is connected. Flow Systems are related to the rotation of the Earth connected to the Sun Cycle. A City is synchronized to the Day and the Sun Cycle,.

Yellow (Idea, creative)/<-<Red (Sensing, Action) is called Inventive in PoC . Very important is the link Green (Social)<->Blue (Management, Control, Unity, Rules, Systems) ) that contains the term Building Value and the link Blue/Yelow (Inspire). It is the most important process that transforms resources (Value) into a Unity (Capital, Wealth,Potential) that is able to allocate the Creative Power (Spirit). Have a look again at how entrainment is used in combinations with Rituals.

The 3rd Picture shows a bigger picture where Types of Systems are related that are 2fold (Fragile), 4Fold (look like Organisms) and N-Fold (Anti-Fragile). They change in a way we call Evolution.

The interesting part of all the pictures is that they are all created by applying the fractal of PoC on PoC etc.

If The State is an Ecology we have to create a Multi-Layer nested PoC-model or start with a simple model (“a meta-fractal?) and make it more complex by combining more parts in different ways. The lowest level of this system has to be the human. The human is a moving-Ecology of Bacteria and Viruses.

The pictures below are explained in the chapters above.

Pictures come from Chapter 4 (About PoC): Also see this.

## 13. How to Design a State:

In this chapter we use the Development Proces-Model of PoC. The Arrows make it possible to create Many Different paths of Change..

Observe that Industry , Science, Market (see Polyani) and Media are part of the Model but that the Cross is not filled This place, the role of the Observer or Monitor could be taken by the Sate or the City.

## 14: Human Rights and Maslows Pyramid.

The ancient States grew out of Cities that where (re)Created close to the Sea by a group of People with a Bloodline (Kin(g) ) to a Godmade Human.

The “new” states USA (1787) , France (1789, ), Got Rid of their Kings and God and Based their Constitution on the Principle of “Natural Right“,that later inspired the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Human Rights (HR) have a lot in common with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. This means that HR have a lot in Common with PoC and therefore with Fiskes theory of Human Relations and Panarchy.

Human Rights are a product of an Utopian Movement that was motivated by many World Wars and Dictators that love to speak to their counterparts in the General Assembly of the UN.

Laws are a symbolic power enforced by the legal system that is enforced by a democracy, the power of the many that have no power against the smart weapons that are designed to give Big Brother its tools to control the minds.

A politics of human rights must transcend judges. History shows that movements relying on judges alone are weak. We need more power and the power can be found in the citizins that are also consumers. They can vote with their wealth but much netter with their Intelect.

## 16. The State as the Monitor of the Political Ecology:

In the following chapters I will create my preferred model of the State. To do this I will use the Building blocks that were created in the previous chapters.

## About Alchemy and the Squaring of the Circle:

When thou hast made the Quadrangle Round, Then is all the Secret found”. George Ripley (d.d. 1490).

I believe the State should play the role of Monitor also called Consciousness or Observer.

The monitor is in the Middle is connecting with the different Points of View making sure that the Whole is in Balance.

The monitor is without Judgement. Its only task is to Communicate.

When you look at Paths of Change you will see the big problem that arises when everybody enforces his own Personal View on the World.

It wil lead to a Permanent Conflict in which certain parts Dominate other parts for a while claiming they are the Truth.

Every Point of View claims it has its own Right but blocks the view on the Whole for the others.

Without a view on the whole the parts become a whole leading to an explosion of Complexity.

Our body contains organs but the organs are not the controller of the Body.

Our Brain is not a computer that contains software-programs that are triggered by the sensors of the senses.

the Parts react to the signals of all the Other Parts.

The monitor collects and distributes these signals.

We are a Bodyfield that synchronizes with other fields.

When we look at the Path of the Hero (PoH, also called the monomyth) that was rediscovered by Joseph Campbell we learn that the adventure of life starts with a Calling (Event) to go on a Quest.

In this Quest we use the practises and talents we have aquired in our life.

During the Quest we meet a lot of Helpers (Community) that are motivated by the Quest. At a certain point we have to make a Choice (Priotize) where to go and find the Insight we need to go on.

This Insight is shared with the Community.

An Insight is a view of the inside. Our inside is a Body . Our Body is the Temple we live in.

The PoH is a combination of 2 triangels, the Analytic Cycle and the Value Cycle that share the connection between Vision & Practice called Invention.

The Quest proves what all the Alchemists knew when they had found the Stone that brings Eternal Life.

When the Alchemist closes the circle of the Four Worldviews the alchemist discovers that History repeats itself all the time.

When the monitor does not move all the Stages of the Cycle will appear time after time stage after stage until the cycle returns to the Moment of Conception.

a Natural Ecology stores the Seeds of its creation in a sacred Groove in the Woods, a Spiritual Ecology stores its Intelectual Seeds in the Collective Unconsciousness or in its Holy Books or in the Myths and Stories that are Retold (“Retelling = Reounting) all the time.

## Worldviews and Meridians.

Acupuncture is part of the Chinese Medical (TCM) Tradition and the Indian Medical Tradition called Ayurveda.

The Chinese use Five Elements (Organs) related to the WOrldviews of PoC. Ayurveda uses the same Elements now called Tatvas .

The energy nodes are called Chakra‘s or Meridians. Meridians are paths through which the Life-Energy known as qi” f(or Prana) flows. Qi is the Electro-Magnetic-field that is caused by Moving Electrons in our blood.

The Chinese/Indian-system of medicine was known all over the world including the West. In the west the art of medicine was practiced by the Guild of the Barbers and Medical Doctors trained at the University. They used a Medical Theory that was based on Analogy (the Four Humors ).

Kim Veltman shows that the many cultures on earth use the same building blocks for already > 120.000 years. The building blocks were rearranged in different orders but on the deepest level they stayed the same. He also shows that old-myths are old histories that bring us back to the beginning. This beginning was paradise and paradise was a place where humans were confronted with many dilemma’s that have not changed because our body is not changed.

## The Mandate of Heaven.

The Emperor is in Control until he Fails.

The Mandate of Heaven is a cyclic concept originating in the Zhou Dynasty from before 1000 B.C. which determines whether the emperor is sufficiently virtuous to rule.

The Zhou People worshiped a supreme deity, Tian, the name means “sky” and in English means “Heaven.”

tThe mandate is based on four principles:
1. The right to rule is granted by Heaven
2. There is only Heaven therefore there can only be one ruler
3. The right to rule is based on the virtue of the ruler
4. The right to rule is not limited to one dynasty.

The mandate is still believed by a majority of the people of China. This means that even the tribe of the Communist Party and its leader (a new type of Emperor) has to obey the rules.

The four pillars of the Mandate of Heaven demand that if the Emperor fails to fulfil his obligations to the people, then his Mandate and right to be ruler is over.

“Heaven” sends signs when the ruler’s day are done.

Disasters of nature such as floods, drought, famine and disease are signs that the Ruling Dynasty has lost Heaven’s Mandate to rule, and those happenings justify the people’s right to rebel against them under the four principles of the Mandate.

In centuries past, these signs from Heaven led to uprisings – 49 times in Chinese history – and a new Ruling Dynasty came to power, often from within the ranks of those who rebelled.

In ancient China the Emperor was responsible for the Balance/Harmony of the State. To balance the State the Emperor used the Sheng Cycle implemented in the practice of Sun Tzu.

This Practise can be used in Foreign Policy with the aim of Avoiding Conflicts (Diplomacy) but also in Fighting a War (Strategy). The chinese ruler used the strategy of Tit-for-Tat (Copying the behavior of the opponent).

A very small deviance of what was seen as not normal (a Rooster laying an egg) was seen as an indication that the Balance of the State was gone. It was the signal that big disasters were at hand.

At that moment the Emperor had to Balance the State by performing rituals and by taking action for instance by replacing the Governor of a Province where the imbalance took place.

The rituals of the Emperor focused the attention of the Citizens and this energy changed the course of the state.

The Emperor was responsible for Foreign Trade. Foreign Trade was necessary to introduce new ideas and technology and to find alleys.

## Acupuncture: Diagnose & Treatment.

The generating  cycle, , is a 1->1 relationship of nourishment and Support of one element by another. In the same way that a Mother nourishes her child, so does each of the elements nourish its “Child” element.

A Mother/Child-relationship is what we would call a Causal Relation in a predestinated order that is a Cycle.

The order is the order of the Sun Cycle in which order the seasons are also called organs.

The organs have a relationship with what we call the organs in the body but they are not matter but an Energy Pattern comparable with the Energy-patterns One Mae Who talks about in this blog.

The Controlling Cycle represents relationships which prevent any given element from becoming overwhelming or too powerful in relation to the system as a whole.

In terms of our family-relationships metaphor, it is the “grandmother” that exerts this healthy control over the “grandchild” element

In the West we name the Grandmother-relation a Feed-Forward of Feed-Backward-Relation.

For an explanation of Acupuncture-read this blog. (1): Acupuncture(theory) (2) diagnosis(theory).

The diagnosis is done at the Pulse. This is the place where all the Elements (Points of View)/Organs) get together. By pressing softly at the left or the right pulse a “Pattern” is felt that feels like a wave.

The pattern of the wave is an indication of the Harmony of the Body and the places where balancing is needed. Pressing simulates an Event. The “system” reacts with a reaction to an event.

The same happens when we create a very small Electro Magnetic Field . This event stimulates the Immune-System of the Body. The E/M-field is the Force of Life (Chi).

We could implement the same system by creating a monitor that samples data that represent the World-Views.

China and India are examples of cultures that used their knowledge and experience to manage society. They believed in Cycles and Harmony. The last Emperor was taken by the Mandate of Heaven and had to surrender to the new rulers of the communist party.

This is the end of this blog. In the last chapter (18) I will summarize and introduce a new step in my research.

## History:

It started with isolated Hunter Gatherers that lived in Paradise.

They became a Tribe that settled down in a Proto-City.

The Yaminawá people in Brazil

When the Climate Changed the Tribes moved to the Caves.

In the caves the Humans discovered Total Darkness, the Light of the Imagination and translated Pictures into Sounds.

The proto-settlements turned into cities. One of the oldest is Jericho.

archaeologists have unearthed the remains of 20 successive settlements in Jericho, dating back 11,000 years.

The cities became City-states and because of the Distribution of Labor (mostly by Slaves) they were able to feed big Armies .

The Leaders of the settled tribes turned themselves into Gods and became Kin-g.

The city-states close to the Sea and the Silk-roads became Rich and Powerful and expanded into Countries.

The kin-gs united the City-States and The State was Born.

The Kin-gs became Pope or Emperor. All the time their Magical attributes and Supporters (the Tribes) did not change until the Slaves killed the Kin’gs.

Charlemagne united most of Western Europe for the first time since the Roman Empire, and spurred the Carolingian Renaissance. Sometimes called the ‘Father of Europe’.

The French Revolution ended the Power of the Kin’gs and of their Gods and created the concept of the Cooperative.

## The Enlightment.

The Roots of Rationalism can be found in the Enlightment.

In the 18th century Rational Man, not God, got into the Centre.

The Scientists and Philosophers of the Enlightment were obsessed by Objectivity and Perfection.

In their view, Objectivity and Perfection can only be accomplished by controlling the subjective parts, the Emotions and the Imagination of the Human Being.

The subjective parts are part of the Body and the Body is Impulsive and Illusionary. The Warm Chaotic Sensual Body detracts the Cold Analytic Brain.

The Rationalists created the Corporations, the Mass Production System and the Mass Media. Every structure in the rational ecology is designed to perform its own Specialized task.

The Mass Media create the Demand for the Products that the Mass Production Systems have to deliver.

The Rationalists put the Brains at the Top of the Hierarchy of the Corporations and the Brain in the Operating System of the Computer.

They eliminated the Craftsman and the Laborers and replaced them with the Perfect always Obedient Objective Human, the Robot.

Rationalism is turning every local Diversity into a global Monoculture. Everything can be Quantified and Everything, even Life itself, can be Engineered (Bio-Engineering).

The Big Problems Earth is facing can be solved by new Technology and Enough Capital to Invest.

It is just a matter of Time and the totally Engineered World will be a Fact of Life. If Earth cannot be saved we will simply move into Space and find another Place to Live.

## The Ecology of the State:

In this blog I try to show that we have to believe in Self-Regulation which means that the first step to create the State of the Future is to de-Regulate.

Self-regulation is A State without a Government (Anarchy) or ““an inclusive, universal system of governance in which all may participate meaningfully.” This could be a State as a Cooperative.

The theory of PanAnarchy. is “a conceptual framework to account for the dual, and seemingly contradictory, characteristics of all complex systems.”

Panarchy explains Ecologies by using a Taoistic view on the world. An ecology has a Yin and a Yang side or in terms of PoC it combines Agency (Yang, Unity, Order) and Communion (Yin, Cooperation). This order is a observed or Emergent order not an enforced order.

This order could result out of an Entrained System,

The four stages of the Adaptive Cycle are  analogous to Birth, Growth, Maturation, Death and Renewal and have Three properties that determine the dynamic characteristics of each cycle:

• (1) Potential sets the limits to what is Possible
• (2) Connectedness determines the degree to which a system can control its own destiny through Internal controls, as distinct from being influenced by External variables
• (3) Resilience determines how Vulnerable a system is to unexpected disturbances.

## A new Research-project.

The model below is a result of the research of Alan Fiske. See chapter 6. It relates the four geometries with four Social Relationshipsmodels of Fiske.

I have created a new blog for this chapter push here to go on.

This chapter is now a new blog.

# About The Future of the State

Introduction.

are you interested in a possible new State? Read this.

This blog started as (and is still) a blog about the Future of the State we are part of.

In the first version of this blog (now Part 3) I detected that The Democratic State is a Facade for an Aristocratic Elite (“A TRIBE). This has been the case since the first King of Ur Gilgamesh returned after the Great Flood.

It looks like the state is collapsing everywhere in the world and a Big new type of state (China) is growing and expanding based on Big Brother Technology,

The 2nd version of this blog ended with a search into the history of the State.

During this search I detected that our Ancient Forefathers build advanced Forecasting Systems like Stonehenge to predict Calamities. It looks like we are now not prepared to face such a calamity.

In Part 2 I introduce Bruno Latour with his ideas about the new Constitution. It looks like Bruno is pointing to a Political Ecology which is a nice way to look into the Future.

In Part 7 you will find a List of Chapters of the previous versions.

Today I have started a new Blog to discuss a Design for a new State .

According to Behavioral Economics Humans are highly Confused Predators. As a Predator Humans Protect their Territory with every means possible. They are Confused because they are incapable to Observe and Reason about their own behavior and the behavior of others. The predators are often called Hawks and their victims Doves.

A lot of people don’t believe or don’t know that the Spirit of Inspiration is a Conscious Being.

This spirit is specialized in The current Time (Anima Mundi) or Place (Genius Loci). The Russian Philosopher Bahktin called the combination of Place and Time, the Chronotype.

The Twilight of Democracy. :by Ann Applebaum. The book. describes how the Power of the State was grabbed in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Brazil and now Italy and probably the USA and the UK.

In all of these countries the Leaders change the rules of the Game of Politics to get a Majority and take control over the Media especially the Social Media.

The Treason of the Clerks by Julien Benda. One of the arguments of Applebaum is taken from the book of Julien Benda. He shows how Intellectuals join a powerful group by Changing their Arguments using powerful Rhetorical tools.

It happened in Germany to stay out of trouble of the Nazi’s and the Russians in East Germany but also in the US in the time of Mccarthy and in Turkey during the time of Erdogan.

The Nation State has a very long history that begun when Humans started to Organize themselves in the Stone Age.

Certain Civilizations (Egypt, Sumer, Inca) were (Re)Created at About the Same Time by comparable entities Enki (Sumer), ( Thoth Egypt) ( Viracocha, Inca ) who warned us for possible recurring Disasters (f.i. the Great Flood, the End of Civilization ).

The Creators of the old Civilizations build Celestial Observation Centers (like Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, Carnac,..) all over the World to determine the exact moment in Time of the recurring Calamity.

It is remarkable that they warned us for what is happening in our time.

The same warning comes from leaders of very old civilizations like the Maori, the Aboriginals but also of the Hopi.

According the Hopi Prophesy Three Previous Human Worlds were destroyed when people became Greedy, Worshipped technology as a god, Fought and Hurt each other, and repeatedly forgot the Ethical teachings they’d been given to Honor the Earth as the Source of life and sustenance. Our Fourth World is dying.

The first State after the Flood was a City State called Ur. City-states expand into big states by increasing wealth, taken over othe states by violence or negatitation. States are destroyed by a disaster or war or internal conflcicts.

States and city-states look like organisms.

A City-State is a Distribution System. It distributes Wealth (Surplus, Food, Energy, Knowledge, Human Labor) between rich and poor people.

A State with an unBalanced Distribution system will Collapse.

Because of the Growing (Niche Weather, Fertile, soil) Surplus The Organizatonal Sructures of the States and the States themselves grew bigger and bigger and behaved as humans behaved because humans used them for their Own Benefit.

States grew by Expanding or by taking over other states. To expand states fused but also took over control which was most of the time done with a lot of Violence.

To stay alive States had to increase the amount of soldiers and make or invent new weapons.

Small States fuse into bigger structures like the European Union to benefit from the Protection of a bigger state.

Most of the time the soldiers were children out of the underclass of the state. To motivate the soldiers States became something to Die for.

States Act like humans because humans always Project humans in Agents that show an active behavior. These agents take over the role of the Parent (mostly the Father). States became a Substitute for the Family.

Currently we see a lot of Competing states that compete with other structures that coordinate Human Behavior.

Big Global Companies are sometimes more Powerful than States.

The most innovative state of the state, the constitutional state (See Part 2) has to be innovated to Integrate all of the organizational structures currently available.

If this is not done one of the new structures will Take over Control.

Current Technology is able to Control and Manipulate billions of people by Changing their behavior

Big Brother is real and wide awake waiting to Rule the World.

This blog will show you what the Big Troubles were created by not turning back to the roots of the human structures, Mother Nature connected with .the Moon Cycles

The only Ancient Culture that is still in Tune with Mother Nature lives in Australia and in New Zealand.

Let us Copy their behavior or start looking for a Place to Hide perhaps in the Old Caves in Capadocia.

## Part 1: Surviving in a Cave Looking for the Secret Grove of the State.

The State started as a small City-State surrounded by Walls where the Keeper of the Storage of the Food became a King.

The word King comes from kin (related by birth, bloodline) probably with a God (the first Creator). It is well known that in history powerful kings openly declared that they were a God.

Jericho.is probably the oldest continually-inhabited city.

Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of 20 successive settlement dating back 11,000 years.

he old walls of Jericho were part of a very old Proto-City.

## Humans are Toolmakers.

One of the most interesting inventions was the Boat that made people Look at the Sky to navigate and detect the cycles and the important moments in the cycles (Spring).

Below the Churches vast Underground Cities were found. They were used to hide from the Invasions of the Sea People.

They were people that migrated with their catlle and boats out of Iran and Turkey later returning from Europe to their Homeland.

## The State looks like a Beehive.

Phrygia is well known for the Gordian Knot a puzzle solved by Alexander the Great and its King Midas who wanted to create Gold with his touch.

The Goddess of the Phrygians was Cybele, an old Moon Goddess. At that Time the culture was Matriarchal.

Cybele was the Goddess of the Bees. She originated from a big Black Stone, a meteorite, fallen from Heaven. This Stone became the Kaaba, the Black Stone in Mecca.

The Statue of Cybele was always accompanied by a priesthood of eunuchs who dressed like bees.

The male priesthood castrated themselves during an ecstatic celebration, called the Day of Blood’, which took place on 24 March.

Cybele carries the Wall of a City as a Crown on her head.

Cybele and her priests played an important role in Rome by keeping the Cybilline Books that contained prophesys about the End of the State of Rome.

The methaphor of the Cave must have come from the ancient cavedwellers. All of them developed the same concepts probably related to the Bee-hive of Queen Bee Cybele containing citizen-Working-Bees that provided for the Food of the state.

Egypt was known as the land of the bee, its kings were called ‘beekeepers’ and the founders of the Nile Valley appear to have travelled from the Source of the State Mesopotamia with bees in their boats after the flood, circa 3,000 BCE.

Egypt became one the most stable Nation States on earth for a very long time.

It produced, because of the cyclic flooding of the Nile, a vast amount of Food, was so Wealthy that it was able to defend itself by hiring Mercenaries, even against the Sea People and was therefore able to store a long history of knowledge in its Archives that were taken over by new rulers, the Greek (Alexander the Great) and later the Romans. Alexander was extremely impressed by the Priests of the center of knowledge Heliopolis.

Heliopolis attracted many intelligent people from all over the world to learn the State of the Art in Navigation, Prediction, Architecture, History etc.

The Maori Culture and the of Australia Aboriginals are the oldest culture on earth.

The Maori made a conscious choice not to start Agriculture but to live from Mother Earth.

The Hunter Gatherers developed an intuitive knowledge of what Mother Nature needed. In these cultures only people with a “gift”, the shamans, become priests.

## The Origins of the State according to Plato.

The roots of the State go back to Greece where Plato wrote about it. He believed in a city-state he called kallipolis. The state was ruled by a Philosopher King.

Plato got his teachings in Heliopolis, the Center of Wisdom of Egypt and the whole world at that time. His teacher was the Horite priest, Sechnuphis. His teachings came from Thot also called Hermes Trismegistus. Plato mixed the ancient teachings with the dialogs in his books.

The books of the ancient library of Heliopolis were transported to Alexandria and later to Byzantium, , the Center of the new Roman Empire. Later they were taken to Venice and played an important role in the Renaissance.

## Part 2: Bruno Latour: About The New Constitution.

Latour speaks about the New Constitution.

A Constitution is a Law that Controls Laws, a Meta-Law.

Accoding to Latour a State is an Ecology.

To formulate the right Laws we have to Solve the Distinction Between Hard and Soft, Science (Facts) and Politics (Society, Values) ,  Nature and Culture, Thing and Subject.

An Ecology (= a State) Grows when the parts of the ecology are not too connected (“autonomous“) and the Wealth of the Economy is widely available for action.

The Panarchy Cycle ends with the end of the Ecology (in the Conservation-state), This state is always saved in a Sacred Grove.

I hope that you realize that the Sacred Grove of the state is kept alive in the Maori- and Aboriginal Culture and in humans that are able to Feel and/or See, the new Bards and Druids.

In a Conservation-state a State (a Political ecology) is old and fragile only busy with itself, spending all of its energy (wealth) to reproduce

The Sacred Grove was the place were the Spiritual Buildings (Churches/Cathedrals) were build by the Priests of te Old Orders. Atlas (“the Mapmaker“) and the creator of Atlantis shows the Maps that were made to Navigate all over the World and to Predict the Future by projecting Time in Space (f.i Lightyear).

To find the Future of the State we have to research the time we lived in the Caves,

Politicians have to realize that the State is an Ecology that Contains a Diversity of Matter (Things) and Life Forms (subjects) and

Scientists have to realize that Objects are also Actors, they move and/or are a cause and/or an Effect .

Politicians (Thinking(Unity) <->, Feeling (Social) <–> Manipulate and negociate Consensus and

Scientists (Thinking (Unity) , Sensing <–> Make, Analyze) ) have to realize that besides their Archetypes there are other Archetypes like Seeers (INtuiting) and Empats (Feeling). that Play a Role in the Cycle of Paths of Change.

Does the New Constitution, the new Meta Law also apply to Things-Animals and Things- Machines (Robots)?

Who will Speak for the Lakes, the ozon layer, the Trees and the Self-driving Cars in the Parliament of Things.

Are the Laws of Nature in conflict with the New Constitution or are they the same Laws (and what are these Laws)?

In Chapter 9 of this blog you will see that Humans and Animals (and even Viruses and Bacteria apply the (Ethic) Principle of Tit-for-Tat, a solution to the Infinitely Repeated Prisoners Dilemma.

We are all kept in the same Prison that is Nature and our only way to get out is to Collaborate with all of the Life-Forms.

## Part 3: What is Happening?

We are witnessing a Global Transformation in which the old Organizational Mass Structures are Loosing their Power and the Struggle between the Hawks (Rich, Influentional) and the Doves (Poor, Isolated) comes back.

History Repeats itself in a completely different Context filled with Big Brother Technology.

Is it possible to create a Big Brother State that citizens Love to live in?

It looks like (Surveillance Capitalism) could become our Big Friend by Automating Us.

## Part 4: The History of the State.

The State was invented in Sumer translated in Akkadian as the “Land of the Civilized Kings”.

Their forefathers moved from a hunter-gatherer society to an Agrarian one prior to 5000 BCE.

The Kings and their High Priests invented Cuneiform script, the Wheel, the Sail Boat, Irrigation, Law, Diplomacy, Trade, Bookkeeping and astrology.

## Part 5: Theory of the State.

State formation is explained by The production of surplus (Wealth) resulting in a division and specialization of labor: leading to Classes who worked the land and to those who could devote their time to other tasks including astrology and warfare.

Large societies tend to develop Ruling classes and supporting Bureaucracies (Systems, Connectedness) , which leads to larger organizations that want to Control the world.

When the state is too dependent on systems the state will collaps when a Not Expected Disaster takes place (a Black Swan or a Dragon King.).

For a very long time the Hierarchy was the most important Control-System in Use.

Currently the Center of the System is moving from the Top to the Bottom because of the Rise of Communication Technology (Internet).

## Part 6: Summary.

A big part of this blog is about the State we live in called the Constitutional State, the Nation State or the Rechtsstaat.

All of them are highly Dependent on the Belief that People are regulated by Laws and that there is something behind all these Laws which is an Eternal principle that represents the Good.

A deep (but not very difficult) analysis shows that the State is an instrument to benefit a certain Elite (A Tribe?) that is Sustained by the Systems of the State in which the Educational System is the most important.

The article by William I. Robinson: Gramsci and Globalisation: From Nation‐State to Transnational Hegemony shows that the current Social Networks of Local Elites connect on the World level and are influenzing the Global Nation States.

The extreme wealthy creators of the Global Social-Network Technology know that they are able to Control the World with a Silent Revolution in which the Needs of their users can be changed to live in a new type of Paradise in which the old Roman theory of controlling their citizins with Food & Play will Lead the Way.

## Part 7.List of Chapters.

This list contains numbered summaries of the chapters of this blog from now. It makes it possible to Jump into the blog without missing much.

Watch out: THis Blog is still in Development. It will not be the same in a few weeks from now.

## 2: What is a State?

A State was an instrument to support the Ruler of a Boundary in Space called a City State.

The Rulers became Omnipotent when they transformed themselves into a God.

THe City State Monaco.

## 3. History of the State starting with the GREAT FLOOD.

Before the Great Flood Humans were organized in Tribes and later in Kingdoms. Most of the humans were owned by other humans.

After the Industrial Revolution the Slaves started a Revolution and the Kings had to share their Power with the Many still divided in the Rich and the Poor.

People no longer felt they were Owned by some Ruler; instead they now gave their Loyalty to something bigger, the Nation-state.

## 4. The Constitutional State.

This is a new concept in which the “good” is put into a General accepted Meta-law (a law that rules over other laws) chosen by a Majority of people. The big problems with a Meta-System is that it not bounded. It suffers Infinite Regress.

The big problem with a not bounded Constitution is that it will eventually cover All of the Humans, the Animals, the Territory of Earth (UNO) or even Space.

## 5. The problems of the Constitutional Sate.

To service its citizens the Rechtsstaat starts Companies that operate in the for- and the non-profit Market.

These Companies are now sold (or “given”) to the rich elite or the rich global companies that are now controlling the world.

Poor Citizens are paying Taxes for the benefit of the rich others.

This is Splitting the State and gives Opportunistic Leaders (Populist) the chance to drive their followers into a Renaissance of the Fascist State.

The STaat is also competing with other rechtsstaats (EU, UNO, ..). that control the “lower” rechtstaat giving the Nationalists the opportunity to dissolve structures that were created to Prevent a 3de World-war.

## 6. The End of the Nation State.

States are connected to a physical boundary. The United Nations relate to Earth.

The perspective of Humanity changed when we were able to see the Earth in the Middle (Bible, Creation Story) the Sun in the Middle ( Science Copernicus) to the Center of the Milkey Way in the Middle (Hubble Telescope, Technology).

The Cycle of History is moving to the Center. Our movement into Space_ generates a new (Space)-Spirituality created by the Meta-Myth of Joseph Gampbell that motivates people to leave Earth and move to Mars or even further.

## 7. About Anarchy and Terroism.

The Institutions of the state and the Elite that controls the state have been an object of Destruction for a very long time. Until now the State seems to be Resilient/ Anti-fragile. It restores and grows from Chaos.

## 8. Living in Caves. The Pre-Historic State.

What can we learn from the time Humans were not part of a State (and part of a Tribe). What we can learn is that a lot of the experience of that time is put into our culture and in our myths and religion.

## 9: Are Humans different from Animals & Organisms.

Organisms & Animals “create” organizational structures that look like States. How different are we from organisms and our cousins the Apes. An important feature we don’t want to see is Synchronization. It helps dictators to control the masses.

## 10. Diverging States?

In 1989 The Berlin Wall fell and the western Nation-State became the “normal” model of the World. After that moment old conflicts started all over again. The same happened when the world wanted to get rid of “real” Dictators like Saddam Hoessein.

States are not a computer program that controls citizins, we can Restart.

States revert to their Initial State which is a Tribal Structure in which Violence is a normal tool to control the Population.

The New Leaders Copy the Story of the Ancient Leaders by Remembering old Stories about Lost Battles. This happened everywhere in the World from YugoSlavia to Ruanda.

Dictators with the use of State Violence control latent conflicts.

States are a very Complex Balancing Act in which many Powers are Neutralized.

## 11. The Techno-State.

In 1999 I wrote a document called MOVING UP and MOVING DOWN Ideas and opinions about the connection between Small Scale specialized human networks and large scale collaborative IT-technology.

It shows that we are moving to a connected Collaborative Space mostly called the Internet (or Hyperspace).

Hyperspace is now owned by big Global companies like Google and Facebook that Sell and Predict the Activity-profiles in Hyper- and Physical Space of many people on earth.

## 1.Introduction.

This blog is the result of an increasing frustration about the Performance of the State I live in (The Netherlands).

My Government acts without a vision, spends a huge amount of (tax)money and makes nistake after mistake most of the time in the use of Technology but also in providing effective Healthcare, Education, Protection, etc etc.

I Spend a few weeks reading thinking and writing about the State and came to the conclusion that we are facing the end of the Nation State.

It looks like Big Brother is already there and we are facing a situation in Europe that looks like the rise of the Totalitarian fascists States around 1933.

Is history repeating?

## 2. What is a Sate?

A Nation State is a Top Down Management Structure that controls a lot of people that share a lot. Currently the Top (Government) is loosing its power to other powers (Companies) .

In this last case the Nation State will transform into a Network of Special Economic Zones comparable to Hong Kong that provide a Tax-haven and a Secure haven to the very Rich. .

People that look alike synchronize and turn into a crowd that follows the directions of the Leader if he (or she) uses the Rhetoric of the Common Enemy. Most of the influentual Dictators were aware (by instinct or training) that they could bring a huge amount of people in Sync doing things they never believed that was Possible.

Nation States are fragmenting into small Cultural Identities.

The State is defefined by Max Weber as a polity that maintains a Monopoly on the use of violence.

The Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that questions of the State, how it should be organized, and how it should pursue its ends, were fundamental to the achievement of happiness. Aristotle was aquainted with the City-State of Athens.

The State we live in is the result of a Top-Down/Bottom Up process that repeats itself many times.

States start as small City States, and grow into Big Burocratic States.

Burocratic states are highly fragile and are therefore easily destroyed by a calamity or taken over by groups of violent people specialized in warfare that are triggered by famine caused by a change of climate or a change of the environment caused by human activity (desert creation, the industrial revolution).

Another cause of the end of a state can be found in internal conflict between competing groups often part of the Rulers (Masters) and the Ruled (Slaves).

This conflict can result in a Split of the state and or a Fusion of comparable parts. India and the Us are an example of both in which Religion was the cause of the split and a Cultural Likeness (“Capitalistic, Calvinistic) the reason of a Fusion.

The Huns, especially under their King Attila, made frequent and devastating raids into the Eastern Roman Empire. invaded Italy and almost conquered Rome.

Chinese government build big walls to protect the country against the Mongols.

In time the Victors fill in the old framework of the burocracy with their own people and the system becomes fragile again.

Systems (and humans) Reproduce themselves with Parts that reproduce themselves ( autopoiesis. ).

## 3.History of the State.

The next Great Flood will probably not be caused by a collision with a meteorite but by the melting of ice caused by the rising of temperature caused by Climate Change.

The repeating process of State-production was stopped by and started again after the Great Flood. This happened around 3117 BC.

After the Flood had swept over the earth and when kingship was lowered again from heaven, kingship was first in Kish. . . . in Uruk the divine Gilgamesh . . . ruled 126 years . . . its kingship was removed to Ur

The City State of Ur.

Ur was a new .start. Soon the City States started to make war and grew into a bigger structure.

Ur has always been an important location, a harbor, part of the trade-routes that connected the East and the West. Because of the Trade The rulers (Male and/or Female) of Ur became very rich.

Rulers become God and The High Priest gets te power.

Extreme richness, Power and Praise often leads to many psychological disorders (described by Interpersonal Theory) including Histrionic, believing your Fantasy is true ) Narcissism (extreme self-esteem) and Paranoia (Believing that Everybody is a Threat).

Shulgi, the greatest king of the Third Dynasty of Ur, who solidified the hegemony of Ur and reformed the empire into a highly centralized bureaucratic state. Shulgi ruled for a long time (at least 42 years) and deified himself halfway through his rule.

The transformation from ruler to God brought the King to the highest state of Power. Many rulers copied this behavior and many new Gods appeared making life very complex.

At the time of Shulgi rulers were often adviced by Magi that had a lot of knowledge about Mass Manipulation, Personal Magic and Medicine. When the rulers became God the Magi became the High Priest.

Monotheism.

The Egyptian Pharao Akhenaton who was probably the Master of the Biblical Mozes Defined one God as the principal God. He started a new trend Monotheism based on the worship of Aten (the Sun Disk) .

In the Egyptian state the Priests were very powerful. They rebelled against Akhhenaton and restored the cult of Ammon.

Ancient Israelite religion was originally polytheistic; the Israelites worshipped many deities including El, Baal, Asherah, and Astarte. Yahweh was originally the national god of the Kingdom of Judah.

The ancient economies of China, the Incan Empire, the Indian Empires, Babylon, Greece, and the various kingdoms of Africa operated on principles of reciprocity and redistribution with a very limited role for markets.

Cycles: History repeats itself.

Below you see a picture of a cycle-generator that generates Cycles in Cycles (etc). Cycles are driven by harmonic patterns that have a lot in common with music (“the Music of the Spheres“).

The Waves and the Overtones of the cycle going Up and Down can be described with recurring themes part of a five-fold-pattern (Pentangle). This pattern shares the four World Views of Path of Change (PoC) with a center which represents a whole. . PoC is a very old theory about Change that was discovered by Will McWhinney.

Two states of The State of Rome.

Rome was a state ruled by an elected emperor controlled by an elected parliament with representatives that were Roman Citizen.

Emperor Constantine the Great made Christianity the leading religion of Rome because it looked a lot like the belief of his soldiers the (persian) cult of Mitra. Mitra transformed into Archangel Michael.

The Emperor of Rome transformed into the Pope of Rome.

New Empires.

To the Romans, anyone who was not a citizen of Rome or who did not speak Latin was a barbarian. In Europe there were five major barbarian tribes – the Huns, Franks, Vandals, Saxons, and Visigoths (Goths) – and all of them wanted to destroy Rome.

The rulers of the barbarians soon created kingdoms, empire-states that took over the rule of Rome. As always the expansion of the new Empires generated conflicts and war.

The Secular State.

In the renaissance the Zeitgeist of Europe turned into the state of Imagination/Spirit.

The Bible was translated in the languages of the empires and a unique interpretation of the Christian Faith turned into a Work Ethic based on the theories of Calvin.

Cpitalism and the freedom of Faith were born. The State left the field of religion and the Secular _State was born.

The State of the (Capitalistic) Hawks.

“The German sociologist Franz Oppenheimer (1864-1943), said, there are only two ways for men to acquire wealth.

The first method is by producing a good or a service and voluntarily exchanging that good for the product of somebody else.

This is the method of exchange, the method of the free market; it’s creative and expands production; it is not a zero-sum game because production expands and both parties to the exchange benefit.

Oppenheimer called this method for the acquisition of wealth the “Economic means“.

The second method is seizing another person’s property without his consent, i.e., by robbery, exploitation ND/OR looting.

The Noble Price winning Economist Daniel Kahneman wrote a book called Hawkish Biasis in which he explains economic behavior with the same attitudes Exchange (cooperation, Dove) and competition (Hawk, war, immoral behavior).

Oppenheimer called the thawkish method of obtaining wealth “the political means.” And then he went on to define the state, or government, as “the organization of the Political means,” i.e., the regularization, legitimation, and permanent establishment of the political means for the acquisition of wealth of the Hawks (the Upperclass) .

Socialism, Communism and Equality.

Around 1789 Europe was in the Social State meaning that social-conflicts started to increase.

The French Revolution (1789) started a revolt of the underclass that was hit by an economic crisis caused by a change of the climate caused by an explosion of a vulcano in Iceland. After the revolution the Middleclass (Bourgeoisie) took over the power and created factories powered by the steammachine. This stage in history is called the Industrial Revolution.

The Industrial revolution created a new underclass, the proletariat. Marx following Hegel detected that World History follows Patterns

The French Revolution triggered the start of the Socialistic Movement in England that caused many revolutions in for instance Russia and China. Both are countries that are controlled by an Elite (“the Party“).

Although most of the time not highly visible all countries with a State are controlled by an Elite that creates a Network connected to special Schools/Universities, Political Parties and big Companies or networks of specialized comparable Small companies (Farmers rtc).

## The State as an Selforganizing System.

Anthony Giddens (1985) stresses that the emergence of the “Internally Pacified State” that centralizes the Means of Violence and hence prevents Armed Struggles between opposed classes was accompanied and enabled by a large expansion of the apparatuses of Surveillance and Bureaucratic Administration.

Giddens argues that the nation state is a “Power Container” [Giddens, 1985: 13] that stores and concentrates Authorative and allocative resources and that with the rise of capitalism the nation state replaced the City as the most important power container.

The Institutions of the State are the Keepers of the Rules that facilitate the systems in the state to self-organize:

Can a human society be constrained in such a way that self-organization will thereafter tend to produce outcomes that Advance the Goals of the society? Such a society would be self-organizing in the sense that individuals who pursue only their own interests would none-the-less act in the interests of the society as a whole, irrespective of any intention to do so. This paper identifies the conditions that must be met if such a self- organizing society is to emerge. It demonstrates that the key enabling requirement for a self- organizing society is ‘consequence-capture’. Broadly this means that all agents in the society must capture sufficient of the benefits (and harms) that are produced by their actions on the goals of the society. ‘Consequence-capture’ can be organized in a society by appropriate management (systems of evolvable constraints) that suppress free riders and support pro-social actions. In human societies these constraints include institutions such as systems of governance and social norms. The paper identifies ways of organizing societies so that effective governance will also self-organize. This will produce a fully self-organizing society in which the interests of all agents (including individuals, associations, firms, multi- national corporations, political organizations, institutions and governments) are aligned with the interests of the society as a whole.

## 4. The Constitutional State.

At the turn of the nineteenth century, the constitutional state took its origin from a revolution against absolutist rule and feudal inequality.

‘Constitution’ as a revolutionary new concept of law meant as an ideal-type: written, supreme, secular law, decided by the people and regulating all public power.

Constitutional monarchy was the dominant type of constitutional state in Europe throughout the nineteenth century.

It was marked by a fundamental dualism between monarchical and parliamentary power, which tended towards parliamentarization and came to an end with complete constitutionalization and democratization of European states as an outcome of the First World War.

While the post-war years represented the apex of European constitutionalism, the deep European crisis of the 1930s with the rise of dictatorship destroyed the core function of constitutionalism, to legally bind state power, which came to be restored only gradually after 1989 for the whole of Europe.

Currently a big part of Europe is controlled by the European Union (EU) created 1-1-1958. The citizen support for the EU is in a steep decline culminating in the rise and come back of many nationalistic parties and the Brexit (Exit of Brittain).

5. The Future of the Dutch Constitutional State.

In 2003 the WRR ( Dutch Government Scientific Think Thank) wrote a report about the future of the Dutch Constitutional State called a Rechtsstaat.

A Rechtsstaat is a “constitutional state” in which the exercise of governmental power is constrained by the law.

The big problem not adressed in the document above is that Law is a symbolic system that could be in line with the Zeitgeist or otherwise.

It is almost impossible to program the citizins of a country unless the program is put into many examples that are thaught at primary school.

Louis Althusser is a Marxist Philosopher who claims that Education is the Foundation of the Ruling Power of the State.

Civil Society.

The ZeitGeist is currently in the State of the Center (Whole, White, Boundaries).

Citizins want to be treated as respected Individuals (Informalization) and are exploring boundaries (Intensivation) . Young people Cross boundaries, companies work without boundaries (Globalization) and countries define new boundaries.

The system of rules governing a rechtstaat is becoming too complex and the connected system becomes too bureaucratic, while capacity problems are arising on account of the large flow of applications, public participation procedures, complaints, pleas and proceedings against the government on the part of assertive citizens.

Competing Rule Systems.

Next to this there are many more “rechts states” (EU, UN) that are are creating and enforcing competing rule-systems.

The Service State moves to the Market.

Public services are what make the state visible to its citizens.

Public services are citizens’ direct line to government. They make the state tangible through an almost daily interaction, direct or indirect.

public infrastructure made the previously far away centres of power more accessible.

Currently many public services are given over to the Market making the state more and more invisible.

Especially in small cities and parts of big cities (comparable to city-states) a new third sector is growing that contains cooperatives of civilians that develop shared autarkic non-for-profit (social) functions like energy& food-production, care for the elderly etc etc. These functions are based on exchange of material and services (reciprocity ).

## 6. The End of the Nation State.

(THis part of Chapter 6 is Cited from a part of this long article out of the Guardian)

“Similar varieties of populism are erupting in many countries. Several have noted the parallels in style and substance between leaders such as Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Narendra Modi, Viktor Orbán and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

All countries are today embedded in the same system, which subjects them all to the same pressures.

20th-century political structures are drowning in a 21st-century ocean of deregulated finance, autonomous technology, religious militancy and great-power rivalry.

Finally, the old superpowers’ demolition of old ideas of international society – ideas of the “society of nations” that were essential to the way the new world order was envisioned after 1918 – has turned the nation-state system into a lawless gangland“;

Everything that was structured most of the time by a Top Down Hierarchical Structure and Controlled by Lawmakers that enforce their own rules is now attacked by many new connected (by a Telecom Network) bottom-up structures that make it possible to Control and Direct the Individuals in the Masses with Highly Intelligent Big Brother technology.

The 2nd part of Chapter 6 is cited out of an Article out of Forbes.

From Top to Bottom.

There is a strong popular demand for decisions to be taken at lower levels than Central Government

At the extreme, this has fuelled Iindependence movements in Scotland, Quebec, Catalonia and Western Sahara, not to mention Palestine and Kosovo. Less dramatically, we see an increasing devolution of Central Powers in most countries.

Multinational Corporations are more powerfull than Governments:  They operate globally, unrestricted by borders

The biggest tech companies are now richer than most countries, and foreign Governments find it very difficult to tax them properly on the profits they make.

Hannah Arendt The Origins of Totalitarianism.

At the very center of Hannah Arendt’s analysis of The Origins of Totalitarianism is her insight into the decline of European Nation-States.

Nation-states were always based on a fiction so that the demanded Liberté, égalité and, fraternité demanded by liberal States was held to be compatible with the national Homogeneity of the Nation.

But as different Ethnic Groups demanded recognition and rights and as refugees advocated for rights within traditional nation-states, the Tension between legal equality and national recognition set the nations of Europe Against the states and led to the rise of Fascism in Italy and Totalitarianism in Germany.

Today there are similar indications that nation-states are once again failing and . that the rise of populist nationalist movements around the world is a response to the widespread failure of nation-states to address 21st century problems.

This is why a strange brand of Apocalyptic Nationalism is so widely in vogue. But the current appeal of Machismo as Political Style, the Wall-building and Xenophobia, the fantastical Promises of National Restoration – these are not cures, but symptoms of what is slowly revealing itself to all: nation states everywhere are in an advanced state of political and moral decay.

## 7.The History of Terrorism, Anarchy, The End of the State by Violence.

Deprivation (poverty, lack of education, lack of political freedom) can drive people to terrorism.

Late in the 19th century, Anarchist labor unions began to use the tactic of general strike. This often resulted in violence by both sides and some of the strikes even resulted in the Deaths of striking workers, their replacements and security staff. In this climate, some anarchists began to advocate and practice terrorism or assassination.

Violence Against the State is used by Groups of People (“Freedom Fighters”) who do not recognize that the current State represents the (Origional) Citizins and/or that the Law of the State is not the Accepted general Law (“Religious Fighters“) of a Culture that occupies the State.

Sometimes the State uses Violence to Control the Citizens of the State (State Terrorism).

## 8. Living in a Cave: Lessons from The Pre-Historic State of the Humans.

The State was created when we,the humans Stopped Moving Around, Settled Down and started Agriculture. . The first place we settled down were Caves.

Outside the Cave Nature was filled with many Animals and Plants we could eat.

To Kill Animals we made Weapons and to make weapons we needed Fire and Iron. Powerful Weapons were filled with Magic.

Magic is a System that gives the Focused Human Belief-System to take the role of Observer in Quantum Mechanics.

As a a human we have to Cope with Violent Acts like an Accident, the Killing of an Animal that looks like a Human and the Strange Transformations of our Body we encounter when we Grow from a Child to a Grown-up.

Our transformation follows the Path of the Hero.

This path has a lot in common with Paths of Change, a General Theory about Change.

The Humans in the Cave became Aware of the Cycles of the Day, The Year and the Equinox.

They crated Rituals to cope with Stress and to avoid Bad Luck.

OSEPH CAMPBELL: “After the animal has been killed, the hunter then has to fulfill certain rites in a a mystic participation with the animals whose death he has brought about, and whose Meat is to become his Life.

So the killing is not simply slaughter, at any rate, it’s a Ritual Act. It’s a recognition of your dependency and of the Voluntary Giving of this food to you by the Animal“.

The humans in the cave specialized and new Crafts came to life. The oldest “jobs” were the Firemaker and the BlackSmith. Both jobs were taken by Shamans. Important crafts were projected on the Gods.

In the Creation-Myths Gods like Ptah and Vulcan were worshiped as the Creator of all things and the patron of various crafts, such as Sculpting and Metalworking.

The Blacksmiths are the Makers & the Warriors. They have a lot in common with the Druids and Bards of the Celts and the Magi of Persia. A Blacksmith was called a Merlin in Celtic Culture.

Vulcan – God of fire and volcanoes as well as Smith of the gods

The Ancient Egyptians Blacksmiths, the Heru-Behutet, are associated with the Power of the Serpent (“the Ka“) and the Winged Disk, the symbol of the Zodiac (Astrology).

Heru Behutet is shown as a Hawk-Headed Man bearing the double crown of Egypt, holding Metal Weapons, and more often as a Winged Disk flanked by a White and a Black Cobra (White and Black Alchemy).

The Mesniu had shaved heads, wore short tunics that exposed their chests, and bore either an inverted Lance or some other Metal instrument.

In the rear of their temples was situated a “Holy of Holies,” called the Mesnit, which was only accessible by the Mesniu. A Holy of Hollies is Fractal Model.

In the Bible the Blacksmiths are associated with the children of Tubal Cain. One of his descendants is Hiram, the Master Builder of the Temple of Solomon. Building big Buildings became an Art.

In African Orisha Culture, the Ogun, the Blacksmiths are always isolated in a special group outside Society because they are the carriers of the Third, (Evil) Eye of Horus and are able to manipulate the Force of Life, Nyama or Ka (Chi, Prana, Ether, the Fifth Element).

Creative People are able to manipulate the Power that Creates.

As soon as the States were created Humans started to Trade & exchange Objects, Creating a new concept called Wealth.

Humans measure their Importance by the physical objects (including caves and animals) they own or are able to buy. They show their importance just like animals in the way they look, wear clothes and the Language they speak.

Humans are experts in detecting lying but we are experts in lying when we deceive ourselves.

There many types of animals that create and defend a Territory.

## 9. Are Humans different from Animals & Organisms?

Multilevel Societies emerge from Cultural Transmissions.

Organisms create Complex Organisational structures that look like a State. They do that by Imitating others that look Similar or Act Similar. Acting Similar (Copying) is the reason for Synchronization.

## 10: States: What makes them Work?

Humans attribute a human Personality to an Active process (an Agent). The weather is nice and States look like a Father ANDor a Mother. or a Family.

George Lakoff is a specialist in Metaphor. A Metaphor is a function between two models.

For instance Freud made a model of the Human by Mapping the Human Body to a Steam Machine.

George Lakoff believes in his book Moral Politics that US Citizins see the State according to their party as a Nurturing Mother (Democrats) or a Strict Father (Republicans) part of a Family (Being a Tribe).

Metaphors are also often used to motivate a country going to a War or to perform another Violent Act.

States are often represented by Humans (Mother Russia) or a Bounded Location (the Heimat, Germany).

States are Born and Grow Up just like Humans.

Just like life a birth is not a gentle process but comes with stress and pain. The Big Battles between states live for many years and the Reason can be revoked to start a new Battle.

The same applies when a State was a Superpower in the past. States without a shared dramatic story don’t motivate citizens to support the state without asking questions.

The State works when the Citizens are able to Trust the state and or be Proud to be part of the state they live in. The state is Evaluated by its Activities but also by the people it represents (PoliticianS).

When we use model of Path of Change (picture below) we can see that Politicians combine Rules and Social (vice verse) which means that they play a Game in which they make a combination between What People Believe and What they Value and are PART OF A CYCLE in which ACTION and REFLECTION takes place.

The task of the Politician is to establish Consensus between the citizens of the State.

## 11 Will The Techno State bring Real Democracy?

Many thought the internet would spawn a Digital democratic utopia: Today, we witness the opposite Hacking elections and Polarizing open societies.

Democracy is not only about Voting but also about having a Voice to articulate what is Needed. Citizens want to participate in the beginning of a project and not only use the result. One of the possibilities is to Vote with the Tax you Pay .

Participatory Budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which community members decide how to spend part of a public budget. It gives people real power over real money.

PB started in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 1989, as an anti-poverty measure that helped reduce child mortality by nearly 20%.

Since then PB has spread to over 3,000 cities around the world, and has been used to decide budgets from states, counties, cities, housing authorities, schools, and other institutions.

# Over de Magie van de OnKwetsbaarheid , the Magic of Invulnerability of Thot, Anti-fragility of Nassim Taleb and the Quaternio of Carl Jung

This is the same blog in English. This Blog is written in Dutch.

Incerto is is an investigation of luck, uncertainty, probability, opacity, human error, risk, disorder, and decision-making in a world we don’t understand“.

## 2. Aanleiding.

## 3. Over Anti-Kwetsbaarheid.

## 4. Over Veerkracht.

Our brain is not cut out for nonlinearities. People think that if, say, two variables are causally linked, then a steady input in one variable should always yield a result in the other one. Our emotional apparatus is designed for linear causality.

Wind extinguishes a candle and energizes fire. You want to be the fire and wish for the wind. …The mission is how to domesticate, even dominate, even conquer, the unseen, the opaque, and the inexplicable.

It takes a lot of intellect and confidence to accept that what makes sense doesn’t really make sense.

For a free person, the optimal – most opportunistic – route between two points should never be the shortest one.

Not seeing a tsunami or an economic event coming is excusable; building something fragile to them is not.

The ultimate freedom lies in not having to explain “why” you did something.

The best choice is the one that remains for no good reason while other options have 2 or more reasons.

You get pseudo-order when you seek order; you get a measure of order and control when you embrace randomness.

In fact, every step is a new beginning.

The general principle of antifragility, it is much better to do things you cannot explain than explain things you cannot do.”).

I want to live happily in a world I don’t understand”).

## 7. Over Paths of Change.

PoC gebruikt vier onafhankelijke  wereldbeelden:

• Sensory (waar-nemen / handelen/ ervaring/ rood),
• Unitary (waar-heid /kennis /systeem /blauw ),
• Mythic (weer (waar?)-geven  / idee/ inzicht/ geel) en
• Social (waar-deren /waarde /groep / groen).

Weer of waar betekent aandacht.

Dit noemt men zelf-referentie of schaal.

The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable.

Fragiele systemen hebben maar twee standen n.l. (0): Heel (H) en (1): Kapot (K). Organismen zijn veerkrachtige systemen.  Ze hebben 2×2 standen (HH (00 =0), HK (01 = 1), KH (10 =2), KK  (11=3)-> Hh->H , HK, KH, KK->K) en zijn cyclisch (0, 1,2,3.0,1,2,3,0,…).

In fact, the most interesting aspect of evolution is that it only works because of its antifragility; it is in love with stressors, randomness, uncertainty, and disorder — while individual organisms are relatively fragile, the gene pool takes advantage of shocks to enhance its fitness.

Taleb: “We have the illusion that the world functions thanks to programmed design, university research, and bureaucratic funding, but there is compelling — very compelling — evidence to show that this is an illusion.

## 14: Over Menselijke Uitdagingen.

(2) Hiërarchie (aanvallen, ontsnappen): Hoe hoger hoe machtiger.

## 15: Alan Fiske : Over Menselijke Verhoudingen.

(1) Identiteit->Cummunal Sharing, groen,

(2) Hierarchie->Authority Ranking, blauw,

(3) Tijdelijkheid -> Equality Matching, geel en

(4) Territorium ->Market Pricing, rood.

EM is veerkrachtig.

MP is Anti-Agile.

18. Opnieuw Over Anti-Fragility.

Be less dependent on external material objects

First remove the downside before you add more things to your life to make it better: Ruim eerst je troep op voordat je aan iets nieuws begint.

Seek out novelty: Try as many things as you can and keep your risk low: Dit is vergelijkbaar met de Bijbelse Spreuk “Onderzoekt alles en behoudt het goede”.

Many Small Risks can give a Big Win; Dit is de z.g. Barbell Strategy.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable:  Stop trying to be a Machine: Comfort is Not the Human Ideal:  Laat je nooit door anderen programmeren met redenen die een risicoloos bestaan garanderen.

If you have more than one Reason to do something, Don’t Do it:  Dit heeft te maken met twijfel, motivatie en vooral ook onduidelijkheid (“elevator pitch”).

Stop pretending you know so much about your future and structure yourself to take advantage of opportunities in the future. More Options, Less Plan: De toekomst is niet voorspelbaar dus plannen (voorspelbare acties) gaan altijd ergens mis.

Evolution does not need narratives. Taking action now is the best thing to doDe natuur verzint niets.

Nimium boni est, cui nihil est mali:  The good is mostly in the absence of the bad: The quickest way to riches is to avoid becoming poor. The most effective way to health is to purge the unhealthy. The easiest way to be happy is to remove unhappiness. The fastest way to wisdom is to not be stupid: Het slechte en het goede hebben hun eigen domein.

(1) Observator: Observator-In-de-wereld= Judging vs Observator-Boven-de-wereld = Perceiving.

(a) Thinking (T, Unity, Denken, Blauw),

(b) Sensing (S, Sensory, Waarnemen/Actie, Rood),

(c) Feeling (F, Social, Emoties, Groen) en

(d) Intuiting (N, Mythic, Verbeelding, Geel).

The attributes of a warrior are ruthless, cunning, patience and sweetness. The fifth element is not a personal one: timing. With those tools he faces every day life. Ruthless is not cruelty but a lack of self pity. Patience is waiting without rushing. Cunning is to distract the mind from the real issue, so it won’t interfere with the process. Sweetness is simply being nice. Timing is the ability of the warrior to use those four qualities at the right time. The warrior aims to be impeccable in whatever he does, but never takes himself and his actions too seriously, considering them as controlled folly. He acts with sustained effort and unbending intent in order to raise his level of energy.

A warrior lives by acting, not by thinking about acting, nor by thinking about what he will think when he has finished acting.

## “When thou hast made the Quadrangle Round,Then is all the Secret found”. George Ripley (d. d 1490).

This blog is about Logic, Alchemy and the relationship between Logic and Alchemy.

Ripley, The alchemist knew that History Repeats itself All the Time. That’s why you know when you are full Circle or when the Square is Round.

Alchemy is the old Egyptian Art of Transformation summarized in the Latin expression Solve (break down in separate elementset Coagula (coming back together (coagulating) in a new, higher form)..

Classic Logic is based on the Square of Opposition of Aristotle. This square was discussed for more than 2000 years. Recently scientists detected that the Square is really a Cube. It misses an extra dimension.

The Square describes  the six oppositions (“dual combinations”) of possibility (“some”, Particular Affirmative), necessity (“all”, Universal Affirmative), not-possibility (“not some”, Particular Negative) and not-necessity (“not all”, Universal Negative).

Geometric Logic is a part of Modal Logic which is a part of Logic.

In Geometric Logic the Linguistic Representations of Logic are mapped to the Graphical Representations of Geometry.

Modal Logic works with the notion that propositions can be mapped to sets of possible worlds.

The idea of possible worlds is attributed to the famous mathematician Gottfried Leibniz (1646-1716), who spoke of possible worlds as ideas in the mind of God and argued that our actually created world must be the best of all possible worlds. Possible worlds play an important role in the explanation of Quantum Mechanics.

Alchemy is based on the Square of the Four Elements. The Four Elements are oppositions. The oppositions of Alchemy are related to the oppositions of the Square of Opposition of Aristotle in an orthogonal model. They form an arc of 90 degrees, which makes Alchemy the complex part (imaginary) of Logic.

In his work De Arte Combinatoria Leibniz developed a general theory of science that was based on a fusion between Alchemy and Logic.

In this blog I will explain Alchemy and Logic and show that Alchemy and Geometric Logic share the same geometry, the Hexagon (the Seal of Solomon), which is a 2D-mapping of the Cube of Space of the Sefer Yetsirah.

One of the most complicated ancient architectures is the architecture behind Alchemy. The architecture of Alchemy is full of strange concepts and allegories.

Alchemy comes from the Arabic al-khemia meaning the Black Soil of Egypt (or the ((Egyptian) Black Art). Alchemy is the art of transformation.

Alchemy is an ancient science that was practiced all over the world. The most famous teacher was called Hermes Trismegistus in Greece and Thoth in Egypt. The old science of Hermes came back in the Renaissance.

The essence of Alchemy is called REBIS (Res Bina), Double Matter. REBIS is the end product of the alchemical magnum opus or Great Work. It is the Fusion of Spirit and Matter (the Body). Spirit is the Creative Part of the Human.

Double matter is sometimes described as the divine hermaphrodite, a being of both male and female qualities as indicated by the two heads within a single body.

The Great Work is the chemical and personal quest to create Double Matter, the Philosopher’s Stone, Spirit in Matter.

The Stone is the agent of chemical transmutation, and the key ingredient in the creation of the elixir of life, said to heal all diseases, induce longevity and even immortality.

In current Physics  transmutation is proved at room temperature in a proces called Cold Fusion.

In Physics one explanation for the fusion between Quantum Mechanics and Gravity is called the Wheeler Feynman Absorber Theory. In this theory the Future causes the Past and vice-versa. We are always in the Now, the Middle between Past & Future.

The Future and the Past are created by the Intention of the Observer, we call Measurement.

The aim of the Great Work is a fusion with the One (the Blazing Star, Saturn, Point) that is divided in the Two (Sun & Moon, Male & Female, Line) and the Four Planets (Square), the 12 (4×4-4) Constellations or more structures based on a power of a power (of a power….)  of 2. The Great Work moves from 2**N, …., Sixteen to Four to Two to One (or from one to two to four) in a Spiraling Spiral Motion.

The One, to which the elements must be reduced, is a little circle in the center of the squared figure (the cross). The cross is the mediator, making peace between the opposition of the planets.

The First Matter is the primordial chaos comparable to what we now call the vacuum, the state of lowest energy. This state contains all possibilities.

It can be looked on as an unorganized state of energy  that is the same for all substances and exists in an invisible state between energy and matter.

The First Matter is the One, the Point in the Middle of the Circle. In current physics a point is called a singularity or a black hole.

Alchemy is about re-combination summarized in the Latin expression Solve (break down in separate elementset Coagula (coming back together (coagulating) in a new, higher form).

Earth (Body) becomes Water (Spirit) by dissolving it in some solvent. Water becomes Air (a moist vapor) by boiling, which further heating turns into Fire (a dry vapor).

Finally Fire becomes Earth by allowing the vapors to condense on a solid material (a stone).

The circulation may repeat if it is done in a reflux condenser, such as the Pelican or kerotakis.

The Pelican is the Symbol of the Heart Chakra the connector between the Upper- and the Lower Triangle of the Body.

According to the early alchemists, the four elements—fire, water, air, and earth—come into existence via the combination of specific qualities, recognized as hot, cold, wet, and dry, being impressed on to the Prime Matter. For example, when hot and dry are impressed on the Prime Matter, we have fire.

(Hot and Cold) and (Wet and Dry) are oppositions. Their fusion is the empty set.

(Hot or Cold) and (Wet or Dry) can be combined -> (Hot, Wet), (Hot, Dry), etc.

The Cold allows substances to get together. The Hot is the power of separation.

Wet things tend to be Flexible (Fluent, Movement, Self, Not-Agency) whereas Dry things are fixed and structured (Agency, Resistance, not-Movement).

When the qualities are changed, the elements themselves are changed. Adding Water to Fire substituting wet for dry; hot and dry becomes hot and wet: steam, or Air.

As you can see in de picture below Hot & Cold and Wet and Dry are Binary Opposites (“lines”) that are voided by the central cross, the point of the Empty Set, The Void (A and not-A -> Empty).

Hot & Dry = Fire, Hot & Wet = Air, Cold & Wet = Water and Cold & Dry = Earth.

There are four types of Trinities the Passion-trinity (Dry, Wet, Warm), the Structure-trinity (Dry, Wet, Cold), the Resistance-trinity  (Warm, Cold, Dry) and the Movement-trinity (Warm, Cold, Wet).

The Square rotates. The wheel of the Square is driven by the four qualities. Wet on the rising side, Hot on the top, Dry on the descending side, and Cold on the bottom.

The start is powerless (Cold). By becoming more flexible (Wet) success and power comes (Heat).  At the top Rigidity (Dry) undermines the system and it falls back to a powerless state.

The four Elements all share the Triangle of the Holy Trinity. Every Trinity is seen from another perspective.

The two triangels, The Up-triangel and the Down-Triangel, are Opposites that are created out of two triangels that contain two Opposites that are fused. Humans are opposites in opposition.

Humans are FourFold

Humans are part of the Bilateria,  animals with bilateral symmetry.

Humans can be described as a fusion of two mirrored bilateral triangles, the Up-triangel related to the Top of the Body (Mind) and the Bottom-triangel of the lower Body both connected by the Heart. The two triangels and the separate triangels have to be balanced.

The principle of Balancing the two Triangles of Top & Bottom of the Body is represented by the Egyptian Goddess Ma’at who weights the Heart (the connector of Up and Down) of the Dead with her Feather (Nothing).

As you can see the Square of the Cycle of the Four Elements is visible in the picture below. The total picture shows a Hexagram with a Center (The Cross).

The points that are missing in the Square are the top- and the bottom of the two triangels which are the Whole (Up, Heaven) and the not-Whole, Emptiness, the Bottom (Hell).

A hexagon is a 2D-projection of a Cube.

The hexagon of Solomon can be transformed into the Cube of Space of the Sefer Yetsirah.

The Cube of Space can be transformed into the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life also called the tree of knowledge or world tree  connects heaven and underworld and all forms of creation and is portrayed in various religions and philosophies all over the world.

The Spiral of Alchemy is about the Chemical Transformation of the Body by the Conceptual Transformation of the Mind.

The Tree of Life shows the levels/scales (three) and possible paths of the Opus Magnum, the alchemical journey.

About Truths for a Fact and Truths for a Reason

People have always believed in the fundamental character of binary oppositions like Hot & Cold and Wet & Dry are used in Alchemy.

In this part we move to the Field of Logic. In this case Hot/Cold and Wet/Dry transform into Necessary /Not-Necessary and Possible/not-Possible.

Oppositions can be divided in:

1. Digital oppositions, contradictories, contain mutually exclusive terms (Gender (Male/Female)).
2. Analogue oppositions, antonyms  or contraries: contain terms that are ordered on the same dimension (Temperature (Minimum->Cold/maximum->Hot)).

The doctrine of the square of opposition originated with Aristotle in the fourth century BC and has occurred in logic texts ever since.

The logical square is the result of two questions: Can two things be false together? Can two things be true together?

This gives 4 possibilities: no-no: contradiction (A/O, E/I); no-yes: subcontrariety (I/O); yes-no: contrariety (A/E); yes-yes: subalternation (A/I, E/O) better known as implication (A->B).

The four corners of the square represent the four basic forms of propositions recognized in classical logic:

1. A propositions, or universal affirmatives take the form: All S are P.
2. E propositions, or universal negations take the form: No S are P.
3. I propositions, or particular affirmatives take the form: Some S are P.
4. O propositions, or particular negations take the form: Some S are not P.

The square of opposition was debated for many reasons for more than two thousand years.

One of the discussions is about the difference between possible and necessary. In the so called Master Argument Diodorus proved that the future is as certain and defined as the past. The essence of logic (necessaty) implies the non-existence of freedom (possibility). X is possible if and only if X is necessary.

The term ‘possible’, in Aristotle’s view, is ambiguous. It has two senses known as one-sided possibility and two-sided possibility (or contingency). Being two-sided possible means being neither impossible nor necessary, and being one-sided possible simply means being not impossible.

Leibniz distinguished between necessary Truths for a Reason, which are true for a reason—i.e, their opposite is a contradiction—and contingent truths, (Truth for a Fact) such as the fact that the president of France is François Hollande. A contingent truth cannot be proved logically or mathematically; it is accidental, or historical (based on facts (events)).

About Geometric Logic and n-dimensional “Squares” of Opposition

Modal Logic is about the fusion of necessity and possibility, contingency.

In Modal Logic the propositions are modelled in a logical hexagon where:

1. A is interpreted as necessity: the two propositions must be either simultaneously true or simultaneously false. A is a Proof or Law.
2. E is interpreted as impossibility. E is an Observation that contradicts the Proof of A.
3. I is interpreted as possibility:  the truth of the propositions depends on the system of logic being considered . I is an Idea implied by the Proof that Contradicts E.
4. is interpreted as ‘not necessarily’. O contradicts A.
5. U is interpreted as non-contingency: neither logically necessary nor logically impossible, its truth or falsity can be established only by sensory observation.
6. is interpreted as contingency: propositions that are neither true under every possible valuation (i.e. tautologies) nor false under every possible valuation (i.e. contradictions). Their truth depends on the truth of the facts that are part of the proposition. Y is a possible proven theory.

The Logical Hexagon has the same geometry as the Seal of Solomon. It contains the Square of Opposition (A,E,I,O).

The Logical Hexagon can be transformed just like the Seal of Solomon to the Cube of Space now called The Cube of Opposition.

The Logical Hexagon is used in many fields of Sciences like Musical Theory or Scientific Discovery.

Every opposite can be defined by a string of zero’s and one’s like 1010. An opposite is 0101. This means that there are 2**4/2 = 4×4/2= 16 / 2 = 8 possible opposites. This is called the Octagon of Opposites.

The Octagon contains six reachable and two unreachable points in the Center (0000, 1111), the Empty Set (the Void, the Hole, Contradiction) or its Opposite (The Whole, Tautology).

It is clear that it must be possible to create higher dimensional models based on n-based-logics.

When n becomes very big the geometry will tend to a n-Dim circle in which every point is in opposition to the point at the other side.

The big problem with n-based logics is language. We don’t have the names to articulate the many grades of opposition that are possible.

The other problem is that a negation is not a symmetric operation (A = not-not-A) but a rotation with an angle 360/n.

The n-opposite-geometries are highly related to Simple Non-Abelian Groups (SNAGs). They play an important role in biology.

The last step is to transform the static n-opposite geometries by making n very large (infinite) to a dynamic “opposition field”.

Related Models

In current Psychology Hot & Cold are called Communion and Moist & Dry, Agency. Together they create the so called Interpersonal Circumplex.

The four stages of Learning by Jean Piaget.

The mathematical model behind the theory of Piaget is called the Klein Four Group or Identity/Negation/Reciprocity/Correlation-model.

In the Science of Ecology (Panarchy) Agency & Communion are called Connectedness and Potential. The Panarchy model looks like a Mobius Ring.

A model that describes the Four Perspectives on Security:

The Semiotic Square of Greimas:

The Chinese Sheng-Cycle: The Chinese Five Element Model is comparable to the Western Four Element model. It contains as a Fifth Element, the Whole-Part-relationship (Earth, Observer State). Emptiness (Nothing, the Tao) is represented by the recursive Pentangle inside.

The lesson

When thou hast made the quadrangle round, then is all the secret found“.

When You have moved once through the Cycle you have seen Everything there is to See. The only way to move out of the Cycle is to jump into the wHole in the Middle.

The secret: It is impossible to move though the center because the paths that go through the center are a contradiction or a tautology (I am what I am, JHWH).

We have to move with the Cycle (making the rectangle round (a circle)), around the Singularity (the Hole of the Whole), going Up and going Down all the time.

The only way to solve this problem is to join the opposites by accepting only one thruth-value, by:

1. Accepting everything (Wu Wei),
2. Denying everything (Stoics) or
3. Diminishing the amount of dimensions (“becoming Simple”, “like Children”) by moving up in abstraction (Hot & Cold -> Temperature -> Everything is Energy) to the level of zero dimensions, a point, becoming One with the First Matter (Tao, Vacuum, The Kingdom).

“If we then become children, would we thus enter the kingdom?” Jesus said unto them, “When ye make the two one, and when you make the inside like unto the outside and the outside like unto the inside, and that which is above like unto that which is below, and when ye make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male no longer be male nor the female female; then will ye enter into the kingdom.” (Gospel of Thomas, Logion 22).

# About the Next Steps of the Future Center Smart Systems and the Leiden Center of Data Science

At 28-4-2014 the Future Center Smart Systems (FCSS) was launched At the same moment the Leiden Center of Data Science (LCDS) was announced. This is not a coincidence.

FCSS and LCDS are two parts of the same coin. LCDS is focused on the Science of Data and FCSS is focused on using the results of the Science of Data to build Smart Systems or to give the Science of Data interesting problems to solve. FCSS is Practice and LCDS is theory.

When we look at Wikipedia we see that the Data Sciences are defined as “The study of the generalizable extraction of knowledge from data”. Knowledge shows itself in this case as Models, Patterns and Laws (Rules).

The Data Sciences detect patterns based on facts and are an abstraction of the Scientific Process itself.  The Data Sciences are therefore also called E-Science.

E-Science is a combination of:  Signal processing, Mathematics, Probability models, Machine learning, Statistical learning, Computer programming, Data engineering, Pattern recognition and learning, Visualization, Uncertainty modeling, Data warehousing, and High performance computing.

Because E-Science is an abstraction of Science it can be applied to every science you can think of. In the case of the LCDS the current sciences that are involved are Physics, Astronomy, Bio-Science (Leiden Bioscience Park), Life-Sciences (Dutch Techcenter for Life Sciences, DTL), Medical Sciences (LUMC), Law (Leiden Law School), Aviation (NLR), Mathematics and Informatics (LIACS).

The FCSS is not only about E-Science it is also about using the patterns that are discovered to control processes and influence humans. In this case we are interested in the developments in Value, Case & Process-managers,  Domain Models and Sensor-Technology. Theory is static and practice is dynamic. Theory becomes practice by doing.

In the long view we expect that the combination of Senses & Actions & Thinking Machines will lead to Autonomous Systems that will help and support Humans. These systems are sometimes called Robots because we believe Autonomous Systems look like us but an autonomous system like our Universe does not have to move itself.

The next step of the Future Center is to connect with practice, start with technology transfer and find out what the need is of the market.

The Future Center is already involved in some projects and we wants to start some more. If you are interested to participate in one of the projects or want to start a new projects send an email to hans.konstapel@gmail.com.

• Smart System Architectures
Smart Systems need Smart System Architectures. They are a combination of existing architectures based on Process-Models & Sensor-Systems (the Sensory-Motor System) and new architecture that are related to Visualization (the Imagination), Analytics (Data, Process, Text, Software-mining (Thinking)) and Social Networks. (Emotions). The end state is called Global Brain (“The Singularity”).
• Disclosure of Open Data (Repository, Data Warehouses/Data Cards, Visualization)
A lot of Open Data is entering the market. It is not clear where this data is situated and what the data means. In this case we need a Repository and tools to define what part of the data we need at this moment (a Data Warehouse, Data Cards). We need also tools to hide the complexity of the current open databases and makes it possible to show what is available (Visualization).
• Smart Innovation (Business-model generation out of Big- & Open Data)

There are already many on-line tools available that support the innovation process. The data that is used in these tools (for instance market-data) has to be gathered to validate the models. We want to use the Data-sciences to gather appropriate market-data and detect interesting business-opportunities, To do that we want to use Big- and especially Open Data.

• Smart Value Chain Integration & Reversal (Product Configurators, Data/Proces/Software-Mining, Intelligent User-Interfaces)
The value-chains are integrating and the customer is moving into control. Currently a value chain consists of many companies that use many not integrated and not connected legacy-systems. These systems contain data and process-models. We want to use the Data-Sciences to detect these models (Process-mining. Data-Mining, Software-Mining) and map them to available domain-models (ACCORD, ARTS,…) or develop shared domain-models. The data that is used in the value-chain can be mapped to a product-configurator. Last but not least the user-interaction with the customers has te be designed.
• Smart Education (Just-in-Time Education)
Technology is changing fast. This has a huge impact on education. The current system of education is not able  to react to the fast moving technology-waves because it is created  to support the Industrial Revolution that ended around 1950. We are now beyond the next wave that is taking over manual work and moving into the next step in which the Human Brian is copied. The solution to this all, Life Long Education,  is already invented a long time ago but we are not implementing this solution because the Current Education System is aimed at preventive education, trying to train people in the first stage of their life. The solution is Just-in-Time-Education, training people at the moment they need knowledge (DeepQA) or experience (Simulators).
• Smart Buildings & Building Process (with ABN AMRO Dialogs House)
The Building Industry is already using 3D-Models (BIM). A BIM-model is a low-level product-configurator but the model can be moved to a higher level in which it is possible to share (and sell) complete Models (for instance a Hospital). The models can be used to simulate every attribute of a building and let the customers play with possible designs. The models can be used to calculate risk and most important optimize existing buildings (Facility Management). When we combine this with sensor-technology we are able to create adaptable buildings.
• Smart Food Chain & Dietetics
The Food Value Chain will revert and the customer will be in control. At this moment the customers are educated with theories about food that are changing fast. “Good” Food is time, context and body-dependent. We want to make tools that use personal sensors that show the customer what they have to eat to stay healthy and tell them where and how they can buy this food.
• Food & Health (with the International Alliance of Future Centers)
It is not clear what the impact is of Food on our Health. In this project we will analyze the complete food-chain.
• Smart Urban Space (The Self Actualizing City)
This is an integration of the concepts of the Smart City, Integrated Value Chains, the Creative City and Smart Social Networks.
• Next Generation Media

Media are at this moment based on the Sender/Receiver-concept. We want to use the Data Sciences to detect patterns, transform these patterns into text and images and implement a feed-back process with the customers.

• Next Generation Theatre
We want to use the concept of  5D Film to create a new type of sensory and emotional experience.
• Next Generation Energy Systems
Implementing Autarkic Energy Systems.
• Smart Mobility
Using new concepts like the Self-Driving Car & Sensor-Networks  to optimize mobility in Big Cities.
• Social Enterprises (Impact Finance, Social Bonds, Circular Systems, Cooperatives, Complementary Currencies)
The next generation enterprises has to be aware and reduce its impact on society and environment. In this project we also look the finance of Social Enterprises (Impact Finance, Social Bonds) but also at the circular economy, new organizational structures (cooperations, ) and new financial systems based on complementary currencies.
• Conflict-Resolution/E-Mediation
Preventing and resolving conflicts by implementing Smart Mediation.
• Future Jobs (Unemployement & Sense-making, with the International Alliance of Future Centers)
What are the consequences of Smart Systems on employment?
• Smart Care Systems

We want to use Smart Systems to help people that need Economic, Physical, Social and/or Mental Support.

• Virtual Future Centers (with the International Alliance of Future Centers)
Future Centers are currently location-based. Future Centers look like Smart Systems because they Sense their environment, react (Process Manager) on the Events that are happening, try to predict what will happen (Analytics), involve Networks (Communitiies of Practice, Interest and/or Affinity) and Scientific Knowledge Centers (like the LCDS), create a shared Vision and  put this vision into Action (Entrepeneurs, Innovators, Incubators). There are already many people busy with developing parts of the Virtual Future Center. We are currently designing an Architecture and will create an Alliance to join the efforts of all participants.
• Next Generation Secure Data Centers
Smart Systems need Smart Data Centers.

The Presentation of Prof. dr. H. J. van den Herik about Big Data and the Leiden Center of Data Science.

written in 2012,

The amount of local cooperative energy-companies in the Netherlands (in 2012) is increasing. It all has to do with the decrease of the price of solar-sells but there is more at stake.

Local energy-companies are part of a movement aimed at Autarky. Autarky is the quality of being self-sufficient.

The word Autarky comes from Greek αὐτάρκεια (autárkeia), itself from αὐτός (autós) = self and ἀρκέω (arkéo) which in its passive form means be satisfied, content or “Out of my own Power“.

The need to become self-sufficient has certainly to do with the current economic-, ecological- and energy crisis. People are afraid that the supply of vital energy and food will suddenly stop or become priceless. This is not the only reason.

Some people think we are wasting our money, food and energy by producing nondurable throw-away goods in which the packaging is sometimes more important than the content. They want to create durable products and services. This is not the only reason.

Some people don’t trust the suppliers of their food and energy, their politicians and/or the caretakers of their savings, the banks, anymore. They believe that their food is intentionally manipulated, their savings are wasted, their country is sold out to the rich and their environment is polluted for just one simple reason, Greed, the opposite of “Being Satisfied”.

The people of the autarkic movement want to recreate the necessary functions (bank, energy, food, work, healthcare, government) themselves in a cooperative way in their own living context.

The local cooperatives  are now joining on a higher (mostly country) level and are  in need of a shared (real-time)infrastructure. The current infrastructure does not support flows that move between many participants (so called peer-to-peer-networks).

The current system is a Hierarchic Top Down System containing Huge Highways that are connected to Big Production-facilities. This makes it impossible to consolidate, share and distribute resources peer-to-peer on a local level.

The Top Down System has created Global Markets where the local production is sold  to the highest bidder.

The Global Markets are the playing field for advanced speculators that make a lot of money. After the deal is made the local production is transported to a far away destination. That is the reason why the Top Down Systems are integrated in world-wide Logistic Systems.

If we want to coordinate all the local initiatives we need advanced systems that Up- and download, control, predict, connect, share, balance and distribute vital local resources on the short and long term.

Examples of these systems can be found in “crowd funding“, “virtual power plants”  and “treasury management” (balancing many small amounts of Money at the short and long term).

In Nature we find comparable (Fractal) Distribution-Systems in the Lungs, the Arteries, Riverdelta, the Weather Cycle and Ecologies.

All of these fysical Flow Systems, that map 1 Resource-> on Many Resources or Many Resources->on 1 Resource,  are based on the third Law of Thermodynamics called Constructal Law.

In the philosophy of the Stoics and Cynics of Ancient Greece the perfect human was not only arete (“all-around excellent”) but also independent of every need. Arete was associated with a full life as a citizen of a city.

Later Spinoza (“On Human Freedom“), Rousseau and David Thoureau (Walden) have developed their own autarkic philosophy.

Autarky was the ideal of a complete man who needed no one and no organization. This ideal can also be found in Zen Buddhism, Taoist practise, Early Christians (Nazarites), the Catholic Order of the Franciscans and the Protestant Quakers.

In reality it is almost impossible to be completely self-sufficient as a lonely human being. We need others when we are young, sick and old and we need others because we are specialized (“Talented”). Autarky is a possible aim for a small community.

The religious, cultural and political movements at the left and the right aimed at living the “good life” (“Living Slow“) are converging in  the movement of the Cultural Creatives. The Cultural Creatives are the new Elite that is moving to the AND-state (Left AND Right).

They don’t believe in the old Competitive Ideologies (Socialist, Capitalist, Religious, Liberal, Nationalist, Conservative, Globalist, etc..) but want  to focus on the Shared Collaborative Values between all Humans. We all need Love, Food and Shelter.

Autarky has always been a major political aim of countries. Autarky is about the possibility to control your own future and to become independent of other powers that could use your dependency to tell you what to do to get what you desperately want.

At this moment the shortage of fossil fuels, especially oil and gaz, is used to influence the policy of other countries and is the cause of local conflicts in the Middle East.

China is buying all kinds of vital materials to make sure their economy will not become dependent on others. If they will succeed and nobody doubts about that, they will become the economic controlling power of the world.

Reaching a state of local autarky, being satisfied with what your environment provides you, has become the aim of the wordwide sustainability movement.

Total autarky is possible when you want to live as a stoic or a survivalist. Most people accept a more simple living, move off-the-grid and build autonomous buildings that make use of  renewable energy.

Others start to farm in their own backyard, join an allotment garden or move back-to-the-land and practice sustainable agriculture.  To handle their surpluses and shortages independent  local markets are created that make use of  alternative currencies.

A strive for (regional) Autarky pushes the need to innovate to a higher level because not all regions contain the right materials, knowledge or experience to realize everything everybody needs. To become fully Autarkic the Production and Consumption Systems in the Region have to be based on simple concepts and parts that are available everywhere. Simple concepts are concepts that are easely copied.

The only way to combine Simple and Complex concepts is to use the Concept of Self-Reference (Fractals). The only way to make use of parts that are available everywhere is to make use of the Simple Building Blocks of Nature. A good example is the use of algea in food processing.

The concept of Autonomy not only plays an important role on the many levels of human (personal, organization, country) and animal society (Competitive vs Collaborative (Ants)). It is also a major subject in the research of (Second-OrderCybernetics (Control Theory).

Second Order Cybernetics is concerned with the Control of the System of Systems (the Meta-System). Hierarchy is not the solution to this problem because it leads to the logical problem of Infinite Regress (“Turtles on turtles on … all the way down”).

The Meta-System is controlling, reproducing and balancing itself by a Fractal Feedback-Cycle that moves Backwards (Consumption) and Forwards (Production).

The concept of Self-Reproduction is called Autopoiesis or Autocatalysis. The Design Philosophy of Cradle to Cradle is a good example of Autopoiesis.

A System is an Autarky if all its Levels are capable of Self-Reproduction.

If a human wants to become self-sufficient he has to accept and develop his own talent and find complementary people so he is able to create a Self-Reproducing Unit.

The smallest Self-Reproducing Unit in Human Society is the Family living in one House. This House has to produce more than enough Energy and the Garden has to produce more than enough food to support the Family.

If we cluster all these Self-Reproducing Families/Houses & Gardens in a small City the chances are high that the combined talents of the families will be able to supply every profession needed if the people of the city want to Live a Simple Life.

It is also possible that the surplusses and shortages of the families can be compensated by creating a Market on the level of the small City or one level higher, the Region.

An Autarkic Movement becomes an Aggressive Competitive Nationalistic Movement when the Citizens of the Country feel that their Country is plundered by outsiders and their Leaders promise to get it all back by expanding the Space to Live (“Lebensraum“) to facilitate everything that is needed.

This happened when Germany was preparing for War after the enormous reparation payments of 132 billion gold marks to the Winners of World War I.

The Autarkic Movement could also become a Peaceful Cooperative Social Movement like the Movement of Gandhi in India when the people accept the Good Life they already live and want to share the surpluses with others who are in a worse state.

Thermodynamics, the Science of Heat, became an important science in the 19th century when physicists started to improve the Steam-Machine. This blog is about a recently discovered law of Thermodynamics called the Constructal Law.

The Constructal Law describes How Intelligent Systems emerge out of the Laws of Thermodynamics.

According to Thermodynamics the evolution of the universe has been characterized by an on-going transformation from a simple, restricted, highly condensed, homogeneous state (the Big Bang) to an increasingly complex, widely dispersed, dynamic, multipotent, granular diversity.

Energy always moves from High to Low Temperature. This is the main reason why most of the energy of Earth comes from our Sun.

With help of the Electro-Magnetic radiation of the Sun we call Light, plants, algae and bacteria transform simple molecules into complex organic structures (Biomass = Potential Chemical Energy) and store the energy of the Sun. Bacteria and Fungi brake up these structures, produce heat, reduce the complexity, and close the Cycle.

The Input of the Heat of the Sun has to be compensated by a comparable Output of Radiation otherwise Earth would be burned instantly. The difference between the Input and Output of Energy is transformed into Movements on Earth.

The Earth’s climate is a huge flow system. It circulates air and water from the tropics to the poles and back. These flows develop as air and water move from hot to cold regions, a result of variation in the heating of the Earth’s surface by the sun.

The Earth is not only heated by the Sun. The hot kernel of the Earth is surrounded by a small crust. At certain places on Earth and the Sea the rotating pool of the magma-ocean produces a lot of energy.

The Earth with its solar heat input, heat rejection, and wheels of atmospheric and oceanic circulation, is a heat engine without shaft. Its maximized mechanical power cannot be delivered, but is instead destined to dissipate through air and water friction and other forms of heat loss. It produces maximum power, which it then dissipates at a maximum rate.

The earth is wasting a lot of energy because the transmission of  most of its energy is not contained in a Tube-like-system.

The system maximizes the sum of the work done driving the planetary circulation, and the heat rejected back to space at the cold end of the heat engine.

When the speed of the planetary circulation is low, so are the turbulent losses. As speed increases, up to a certain point the sum of work done (circulation speed) and heat rejected also increasing until the turbulence starts to interfere with the circulation and  actually decrease the total of work done and heat rejected. That is the point, “the edge of turbulence”,  at which the system will naturally run.

Every flow system tries to find the perfect balance between movement and friction.

The biomass on Earth is direct or later (Oil, Gaz, Coal) consumed by all kinds of organisms. In Food-Webs Organisms are consumed by other organisms.

We, the Humans, describe the interaction of the organisms in the Food-Webs as a Struggle for Live, a Survival of the Fittest, but the flow of energy in the food webs could also be seen as an adaptive chain of chemical reactions that are performed in self-moving, self-reproducing chemical factories.

Energy is Potential Movement. The potential energy stored in the biomass on Earth is transformed into circular movement (kinetic energy). During this transformation Heat is produced. Heat is the waste produced by a restrained non-effective movement.

The energy of the Sun produces all kinds of movements on Earth. Examples are river-delta’s, our respiratory system and the weather-system.

According to Constructal Theory the generation of design (configuration, patterns, geometry, shape, structure, rhythm) in nature is a physical phenomenon that unites all animate and inanimate systems. Design in Nature always shows itself as systems that flow and improve themselves.  Systems improve themselves because the movement from chaos to order takes many discrete steps.

Biological organisms are flow systems. River basins are flow systems. A Tree is a flow system. The Traffic System is a flow system. The City of Paris is a flow system. The Financial Market is a flow system. The Internet is a flow system. A Proces-Manager is a flow system.

All these flow systems must be structured (architecturally designed) in such a way that the currents that flow (Life Energy, Water, Air, Electricity, Gaz, People, Cars, Trains, Airplanes, Content, Money) increasingly get to where they need to go. This gives shape and structure to everything that evolves over time.

Flow Systems always remove the Resistance to the Flow themselves.

Constructal Law is formulated as follows: “For a finite-size system to persist in time (to live), it must evolve in such a way that it provides easier access to the imposed currents that flow through it.”.

Nature always provides Resistance to Change (Heat, Erosion, Friction) and this resistance is provided by the Systems of the Past. The current Order resists the potential Chaos of Free Moving Energy.

The Paths of Change of our Universe always move in the same way. The pattern looks like a Moebius Ring, the number 8, because this is the only way to cope with the polarity of the movements. In a Moebius Ring two Opposite Cyclic Movements are perfectly United.

A Moebius Ring is a 2D-structure that operates in 3D because it needs a Twist to operate.

According to Constructal Theory the Energy of the Sun creates two types of Systems called Engines and Brakes.

Engines are the most effective and efficient states in the evolution of our Universe. They have found the best way to cope with the resistance that is provided by the Brakes. Brakes are the old systems like trees, forests and natural or constructed dams that slow down the movement so the potential energy can be stored.

If the Energy of the Sun is not stored,  the Self-Reproducing Systems are unable to evolve to a higher level of organization.  If every Resistance would be gone the Flow-Systems would Flow in a Radial Pattern to every Direction possible.

If we remove the Natural Brakes (Forests, River-delta’s) the Expansive Flow-systems will take over control and the Smart Highly Improbable Next Generation Brake Systems, the Organisms would die.

We, the Humans, are here to Resist the Engines that give the Flow-Systems the opportunity to make Everything the Same. Every Thing has to become the Same because the Universe does not discriminate. Every configuration has the same chance to be alive.

Dependent on the type of flow there are standard solutions to the dualities that are provided by the eternal battle between engine (movement) and brake (not-movement).

The standard solution can be calculated using the Laws of Thermodynamics. Tree (or Leaf)-shaped fractal systems are for example the best solution for a One-to-Many (or Many-to-One) Flow. The Flow Systems always converge to these Shapes.

Our Earth is rotating, spinning and moving around our moving Sun. The influx of Energy on every area on Earth is changing all the time.

This means that every Flow-System on Earth has to adapt to the short term and long term changing Energy Input of the Sun.

The stability of a Flow-System, the Resistance to Change, is highly dependent on the Resilience of the System.

According to the theory of Panarchy the Resilience of a System is dependent on the Potential and the Connectedness of a System.

In  the Exploitation/Conservation phase of the Adaptive Panarchy-Cycle the Constructal Engines become more efficient (producing more Potential) and Connected. This means that the amount of possible paths in the River-delta of the System is reduced. This amount determinates the resilience of the system.

At the state of maximum production and maximum connection (conservation) the system is spending all its potential at self-reproduction and is highly vulnerable to external disturbances. At a certain moment when a disturbance destroys the majority of the paths the system collapses (release).

The bits and pieces, the components, of the scattered ecology are reassembled sometimes in a different way (reorganization) and the system starts again most of the time on a higher level of organization.

Kleiber’s Law is an example of the Constructal Law. It shows the many levels of organization that have occured since the chemical factories of the bacteria started to work together. Kleiber’s Law can be extented to the level of the Community and the City.

The Panarchy Cycle is Self-Similar. It repeats itself on many Scales. The higher the scale the bigger the impact and the slower change takes place.

The Scales are interconnected. A huge disturbance on a lower scale (Revolt) can have an huge impact on a higher scale when both cycles are moving into the Release State.

A Slow moving High Level Cycle can help to restructure a fast moving cycle by providing the template of the way the components were originally assembled (its CommunityDNA) (Remember).

Constructal Law is a Law of Thermodynamics. Thermodynamics has evolved into a Statistical Theory called Statistical Mechanics. To calculate a probability you have to define the Space of all Possibilities of a System, the Phase Space.

When you don’t know what a system will look like it is impossible to calculate the Phase Space. To calculate the possibilities of Constructal Law you have to imagine the possible constructions of Mother Nature.

It is possible to play with Probability Theory without knowing the exact Phase Space. In this case you have to look at the probabilities of the probabilities. These probabilities are described by the Triangle of Pascal. Behind the Triangle of Pascal a new Triangular Structure shows itself. This pattern goes on and on until the primary Triangle of Creation, the Holy Trinity, is reached.

The Trinity is a combination of Desire (Mother, Female, Expansion, FLOW), Control (Father, Male, Compression, BRAKE) and the combination of both Expansion AND Compression also called the Void or the Tao. In Physics the Void is called the Vacuum or the Zero-Point-Field.

When we have moved back in time and have reached the state of the Trinity we are very close to the Big Bang. The Big Bang is a result of the Union of the Opposites (Yin/Yang, Male/Female, Matter/Anti-Matter, Expansion/Compression) that both came out of the Void.

The Vacuum is the Eternal Flow System of Creation. It contains everything that is possible even the impossible, the Empty Set.

The Tao is like a well:

used but never used up.

It is like the eternal void:

filled with infinite possibilities.

It is hidden but always present.

I don’t know who gave birth to it.

It is older than God.

(Tao Te Ching 4)

According to Constructal Law every finite-size system must evolve in such a way that it provides easier access to the imposed currents that flow through it.

The Tao is the Channel of the Energy of Life. If Constructal Law is Right we have to give easier access to this Flow. We have to become the River to move to our final destination, the Sea of the Nothing.

An Introduction into Constructal Theory
