In this blog I try to define the Computer Architecture of the Future.

The Present is built on Semiconductors” But “The Future will come from somewhere else”.

I believe this architecture will be based on “Nature” because the architecture of “nature” is already based on a Turing machine.

DNA Storage and Programming

it is possible to write a program that makes it possible to generate specialized DNA that generates a specialized organism but that leaves the question open how many organisms are coordinated and how they are coordinated by the coordinator?

Organisms are a cooperation of billions of 1-cellular organisms.
Dna can be used to store a lot of information in a Very Small volume.

DNA is not the carrier of All the data of the organism.

Cell, Organism, Swarm, Ecosystem

The picture below comes out of the work of Michael Levin.

He proved that the DNA determinates the hardware but not the software of the organism.


The software is a Bioelectric field created by the electric-field of the organisms.

such a field is called a BioField.

Shape -> BodyPlan:

The Electro-Magnetic Field determinates the Shape or the Bodyplan of the Organism.

Millions of independent organisms without a nervoussystem don’t need DNA to coordinate their behavior.

They do that by Swarming just like Birds and Fire-Flys do.

History of Computer Architecture

The history shows a highly Dynamical Ecosystem where Issues come and go mostly because of Hypes.

The IT-community is Swarming just like the organisms do.

In the end “old” issues like Modularity and Communality vs Variability come back.

Compress until the Planck Level:

Microservices are part of a general trend to compress software and hardware.

In the end the compressed machines reach the smallest Planck-level in which Quantum-mechanics is dominant.

Heterogenoeus Computing

Hardware becomes programmable blurring the distinction between both fields.

Hardware/software can also be Specialized because of specific demands like very Big data and very Good Performance or specialized Algorithms that come out of AI.

It is also possible to Make or Buy an  FPGA: a Field Programmable Gate Arrays or an ASIC, an Application Specific Integrated Circuit.



Modularity and Communality

Currently customers expect to be able to purchase customized products for near mass production prizes.

To make this possible many parts have been standardised and the Arrangement of the Parts is configured and the Configurator has become a Meta-configurator . Where is the end?

General Purpose Software Architecture

In 1993 I designed an Architecture for Cordys, a Process-Manager based on the BPML-standard.

I used a general change-architecture Paths of Change (PoC) designed by Will McWhinney of UCLA.

In the picture below you see two Connected Networks using the same architecture and a Multi-purpose Collaboration system that uses Moving Software put into specialized Containers.

The containers are evaluated by what i call a Servant.

The Six parts are 2-combinations of Four parts coloured Red (Action), Green (Values, Emotion, Yellow Imagination) and Blue (Control).

A Flow system with a general User Interface (Yellow/Green) that uses Containers that contain data and software that visit specilized machines (Servant) with a Warehouse that contains reusable Appliances (Red, Action).

What is the end of the line?


Hardware has become software and is using Itself to Execute its programs.

This not new. It is used all over the universe.

can be put into a cycle with a very short cycle time.

It is the way Light is becoming Matter and Matter becoming Light.

The four views of PoC are put into a structure where every view is the complement of the opposite View.

This pattern was called a Quaternion by Carl Jung and comes out of Alchemy.

The two Rotated Squares of Leibniz combine the square of logic of Aristotle with the square of Alchemy both based on oppositions of oppositions.

HomeoStasis and Inhibition

Life on earth started with small Autocatalytic Cells with a membrane that “controlled” its proces by generating an inhibitor to stop growing.

Every proces is controlled by its anti-proces that is controlled by its anti-anti-proces.

RISC and the future of RISC

RISC means Reduced Instruction Set Computer.

An Instruction Set defines the Machine language is built up from discrete statements or instructions

Until now nobody got the idea to define a Machine with the effect that the machine was doing things nobody needed making it too complex.

The Reduction of the instruction is still not finished.

The Meta-Architects Henessey and Patterson are now realizing that they have to look with a new view on software from Top to Bottom.


Risc v is an Open Source development platform from Berkely University that has generated many open en closed applications.

Because of the war in Ukraine many countries including Russia, India and /china are now veveloping their own Line. of Chip development all based on Riscc V (or higher)

Semiconductor Strategy

Semiconducters are “essential” parts of computers for such a long time that nobody believes there were alternatives that never made it until now the world became Multi-Polar and the Cold War that was never stopped came back.

Repositories and Metamodels

At ABN and ABN AMRO i was responsible for the software development cycle.

From the start of automation in the sixties ABN and AMRO used a dictionary controlled development proces.

A Dictionary later called a Repository is a specialize database that contains the Meta-model of the development cycle and a proces model that moves software to the Implematation Architecture that contains the hardware and the network.

The technical architecture contains a customer and a bank specific part that supports Electronic Banking (now on Mobile Phones) and support departments of the bank world wide.

Theories of Everything (TOE)

The big problem with a TOE is that they make things very simple to understand until you apply it to reality.

It is easy to move back to the beginning but it is difficult to Apply the beginning to the now.

You can see the patterns and because they are fractal you see them Everywhere.

Ken Wilber found Spiral Dynamics and turned it into the Four quadrants of Carl Jung he got out of Alchemy.

Composition vs Performance

The reaction can be described by a Composition and its Performance.

There are 4 combinations in this picture named Resistance,

Functional Redundancy.

The last one is also called Anti-fragility.

An Event triggers a System that is composed of 2**n (2,4,16,…)components that are all connected in a Cycle.

The Binary pattern (Order, not order) was called Yin and Yang in ancient china. The I Ting (an book of oracles) consist of 64 posibilities.

The 2**N possibilities can be visualised by the Triangle of Pascal or a Spiraling Spiral.

This spiraling pattern is also produced by the Octionons a combination of Quaternions that are combinations of Complex numbers.

A rotating circle generates cycles with the frequency of the rotation.

Everycycle move Up and Down with a Setpoint in the middle.


Panarchy is a theory about Ecologies.

Alan Turing was not only interested in computers but also in Morphology

There are new developments in Morphology coming out of Biology that give us a new Reference model to use a Machine.

TAME Synthetic Morphology

This reference model was initially created byPeter Rowlands by rewriting the Formulas of Physics.

He found an Adaptive Machine that is rewriting its own Operating system and its apllication software based on a constraint that makes sure that the universe is always in Balance.

So no Big Bang but an Eternal Being.

Symmetry and Nilpotence

Every Change Sums to Zero.

When the sums are not zero the “software” is changed to get back to zero.

The universe is based on “software” that rewrites itself to stay zero.

The Universe is a Turing Machine

Vanessa Hill and Peter Rowlands found out that the “software” of Biology (DNA) can be “generated” out of the code of the machine of the universe.

is DNA a Computer Program?

DNA looks like a Program and therefore the Cell looks like a Computer.

DNA contains the specification of the essential Hardware but not of the Software.

The software is stored in a Bioelectric Field.

Where is the Computer?

Organisms are (bio)-chemical structures.

When the organisms are very small (1-cellular) they behave as Quantum Systems that are influenced by the Vacuum.

Development Cycle

The development proces of software is a cycle in which new developments are inplemented and improved.

Shared software structures became infrastructure or packages that can be ajusted to the needs of the user.

Modularity and Communality

Modularity and communality have always been an issue in the development proces.

To make cooperation possible many components have been standardised and many configurations have become adaptable.

Computer software is put into a Virtual Machine that makes it possible to simulate a computer on a computer.

The end of this proces is of abstraction minimal hardware is put into a minimal chip with a variable outside (User interface) that is connected to the Senses.

Meta Architecture

I was responsible for the software development cycle of a very big bank.


This proces was from the beginning supported by a Dictionary later called a Repository.


A repository is a specialized database that contains specialized software with a specialized User Interface that automates the development proces as nuch as possible.

It constains a generator that generates software that operates on the hardware and network.

Homeo Stasis and Inhibition

Life started as an Autocatalytic system that was controlled by a constraint that triggers an opposite(inhibitor) proces that prohibits growing too fast.

In our body the same happens and even in our culture we use inhibitors to stop growing.

Strangely enough this inhibitor we call “creativity”. Creativity stops the dominance of the old.


is a theory that describes what goes wrong in een Ecology.

A lonely cell becomes a cancer because the bioelectric field has a wrong PH.


To innovate an ecology you need diversity, things or processes that have nothing in common.

Paradigm Shift

Physics and Biology have fused in Biophysics.

It took a long time before we understood what life is.

It also took a long time until Physics becane aware of its mistakes.

The mistakes are caused by the impossibility to proof the theory with an Experiment.

Most physical theories are Self-fullfilling Prophesies.

The instrument that Measure contain the theory the predict.

When the complexity of the current theories was reduced by simplyfying the formula’s a very simple geometry appeared, the geometry of the Octonions.

Nature is a Turing machine

It was also possible to determinated the programming language of life.

Nature is always prohibiting Excessive growth.

Not the DNA but the Bio-electric field mostly created by a collective of 1-cellular organisms determinates sthe Shape and contains the Memory of the organism.
